I have a sinking feeling that by 2029 I'm going to be faking a British accent so no one will think I was one of the *Americans* working on AI during the regime.

It is still the case that the AI technical community on X is pretty functional - it remains one of the better places to catch new papers and analysis. I wish that was over here so I could drop X entirely. Not helping that Yann LeCun only posts on Threads and X.
I fully understand. The conversation is there; staying there and engaging it is the pragmatic thing to do, especially if you're a grad student and need immediate recognition.
I'm fortunate to be in a position where I can worry more about how my actions will look in 2029.
I want to say some of it is "American CEOs often do this shit & American tech CEOs are just the ones likely to be in news" but like... the Musk & Zucc aspects are just worse than run of the mill.
Yep. And if the industry keeps hanging out on X for another 4 years while immigrants are rounded up and FBI agents are fired … it’s just not gonna smell great.
The way that so many people -- who are in tech & obviously don't need to -- who aren't only using twitter but using it as their main place is just saddening.
It’s not the move that gets to most likes, but continually reminding people that tech votes (and donates) heavily majority democrat at large is about all that can be done. Enough tech leaders have taken away the benefit of the doubt from the rest of us :(
one of the more unfortunate realizations I’ve had is that the reason AI is so plagued with dipshits is because a lot of the higher touch techies have decided that ignorance is bliss
I was just separately thinking how it seems possible that tech will be perceived as “owning” the results of the Trump administration in a historically unusual way for most industries (leaving it open whether people like those results or not).

WILD that "libertarians" in the US swing so quickly to "Oh, authoritarianism is cool"
I don't where these data come from, but I am a hella outlier on this chart.

Feeling blessed to at least not work for a U.S. company rn 🙏🏻
Including a lot of leftists 🤷♀️
