if you're like me (a dork who listens to detective radio programs from 60+ years ago) you might hear ppl call P.I.s "shamus".
apparently it's an americanized version of the Irish name Séamus and ppl used it as slang for cops b/c of how many cops were Irish at the time

It sounds like something someone would call Bogart as Sam Spade (maybe it is?)

I love Dragnet, but my all time favorite is Bob Bailey in the transcribed adventures of the man with the action-packed expense account, America’s fabulous freelance insurance investigator: Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar.
I personally like the five-part episodes the best. Poor guy never gets to enjoy his fishing.
Also, I feel like ACAB does NOT include Friday. Possibly Frank gets a pass, too.
anyhoo it was bothering me so i looked it up and now here we are.
my favorites are Richard Diamond, Nero Wolfe and Johnny Dollar
but Dragnet is really good too!
