In film school they teach you to do a 'vomit draft' of your screenplay then rewrite it at least 3 or more times. Due to money/time pressure I've never really done this before w game stuff, just jumped right in and edited as I went. Anyway, I'm on draft #3 of my next project 🙌 - ThreadSky

I'm the same. I'm writing my third novel and while the revision process is intense (still working on my first that I started writing a year ago) I now do a lot more work in first draft. I tend to write a chapter, revise it then move on. Once I have a first draft written I do a first revision.

The concept makes sense in purpose: capturing fundamental elements of the story. When you consider the cinematographic twin to this concept, the master shot, this makes good sense. The goal, however, should be to remain open-minded through the draft revision process and not married to any one idea.

There's no hard rule when it comes to screenplays but investing time and effort into it can pay off tremendously. Signalis is a prime example of that - it's not for everyone, but it has gotten quite a cult following.

I hate rewriting so much that the rewrites consistently end-up worse than the drafts.

I just edit things as i go now.

whatever works for you is best I feel! No use in forcing these things. I do find it quite freeing to take an idea (vomit draft) and try to think of new ways to frame that idea. If it doesn't work out that usually means you nailed it the first time ;D

Oh now, I am nto arrogante enought to think I always get it first time. but for soem reason altering the original document even to the point it becames unrecognizable avoids me a crushing psychologicla weight of having to redo something.
