An exclusion from IHT for heirs who continue to farm the land and make at least 80% of their income from it for 7 years after inheriting would solve this without any need to consider the value of the land.

And Clarkson's kids would still have to pay.

This is a really good point, this distracts from the real drivers of hardship for British farmers. IHT, I think but granted do not know, is much less of a stressor than Brexit. The climate too is making their lives more difficult and more must be done to assist in adaptation for food security.

I am hearing time & time again that the profit from a farm in a year is £20k or £30k and that there are maybe 4 family members who “apparently” are living off that. That isn’t possible so there must be ways that you offset “living costs” as well as equipment against the business. Am I wrong ?
