Over the lifetime of the fued, the original event that sparked everything as compared to all the wrongs committed by both sides. Is really miniscule by comparison.
Every time another cycle of retribution happens. Emotions tend to make it even worse than the preceding event.
And so we get to the current events, the rich CEO's company and family are far more likely, and certainly have the resources for it, to start a massive cycle of retribution.
And so to avoid the majority of crimes that could be sparked by this. It's bart with his telescope. As opposed to...
Those with fewer means. Who definitely feel as strongly about what has happened to them. But by default are far less likely to star a major war based on the original event.
It's not fair, it's not right, it is a massive miscarriage of justice. But there is a certain pragmatism to it.
This right here! You’re brilliant. I’m so pissed about Adams and his trillions of NYPD overtime. Really? for the Puerto Rican parade? It’s not like we don’t know when and what staff is needed. Why am I paying extra for it? Tax payers dollars right in their pockets. Thanks for serving us
They don't seem to be coming up with much. Which is all right with me. he's not exactly like Robin Hood but close enough. he doesn't steal Money from the rich and give it to the poor, He steals life from the rich.
I would have just said a poor person vs a rich person. Same thing is happening in San Antonio. A rich woman is missing and a local news station has a whole news crew on the story with daily updates.
In the rest of the world it is a political issue, if it is a topic that is discussed, debated and fought over in political structures it is by definition a political issue, it might not be the most pressing issue of an individual administration but it is a main political issue of any government
It absolutely is a political issue, I live in Ireland and even I know about the Democrats trying to pass medi care bills against republican opposition, it is a political issue in possibly every country
For the USA to treat it like a political issue you’d need parties on opposite sides of the issue. Not party A slavish devoted the private insurance model and party B slavishly devoted to the private insurance model but also wanting to use it as a weapon against women’s rights.
The fact it apparently calls for a nationwide manhunt just cause it's a CEO tells you all you need to know about how much value they see in us peasants
Yet they couldn't find his backpack near a merry-go-around in Central park, on the route he took away from the scene for THREE days?! Methinks someone had their eyes shut while searching! Or it's been planted to mislead.
My daughter has said for days, I've never seen such a manhunt for a murder victim's like this. Why don't police act like this when an average person is killed? And this is coming from a kid! Even the kids understand this is all weird.
You could have stopped at "rich man" or even just "rich.". They don't give a shit about the deaths of poor or working class white men any more than they do about the deaths of any other poor or working class person. Not everything is about identity politics. Sometimes it really is just class.
Race and racism matter, so does misogyny and homophobia. But identity isn't the only vector of oppression. And I'm sick of liberals pretending class doesn't exist and framing everything in terms of identity in a way that pretends working class white people aren't also oppressed.
The only way we win is to build broad multiracial coalitions representing the working class majority in all its diversity, and doing it in a way that powerfully address all forms of oppression. We can't do that without acknowledging class exists - and organizing around it.
When a well planned assassination in broad daylight, in a busy public place on a wealthy and important member of society is met with understanding and humor rather than shock and horror, society must change the conditions that motivated it.
Not actual evidence everyone will ignore! There's no reason black people voted Democrat and white people voted Republican since the explicit 'here now be the home of racism' party switch. The issue is always minorities being 'divisive' for even seeing discrimination...💀
Have you read the whole article or just the title?
Poverty, lack of trust (hostility) towards police, firearms used as a weapon, and lack of news coverage are mentioned as significant factors.
I wouldn't argue there's no racism but poverty is significant factor in almost all of their findings.
Poverty is a more important factor than racism the majority of the time. Personally I'd say all of the time, but it's impossible to make absolute claims.
I'd even take it a step further and say racism couldn't exist without poverty. For now though, both poverty and racism exist.
But it could be argued that poverty (in this case) exists because of racism. Racism, to a point, has roots in natural human behavior that had been researched, so I'd say it would still exist without poverty. It wouldn't have such a big consequences. Especially without segregation.
Also, poverty creates a condition for someone to become racist. They are told to take their anger out on their peers rather than those above them. It's not the elites fault, it's the people that are weird and destroying everything! Don't look above
It wouldn't matter if I said "I hate all xx people" because, ultimately, my hate would have no influence on their lives if they have all the resources they need. Racism justifies poverty and mistreatment. It's a self feeding loop.
Actually yes and no. Its supposed to be equally used against anyone person or group that is in violation of it.! Regardless of who they are or how much money they have or not have.!
See this is where y'all mess up. Its not a straight white cisgender blah blah blah. Its a millionaire CEO at the helm of a company who cost people's lives. STOP MAKING IT ABOUT RACE GENDER AND ANYTHING ELSE. THIS IS A CLASS WARFARE. GET ON BOARD.
These replies are so disappointing. Truly seems to be nothing learned here. The issue with this CEO being killed isn't about race or gender and y'all still managed to try and tie it in. I'm more convinced every day that we aren't going to move forward.
"STOP MAKING IT ABOUT RACE GENDER AND ANYTHING ELSE. THIS IS A CLASS WARFARE. GET ON BOARD." Sorry that reality disagrees with you so vehemently, and no we're definitely not because people like you don't actually want to get to the bottom of issues so you'll never solve anything
there wasnt a mistake. hell im shit at grammer myself but damn if ur going to be uptight about someone having correct grammer than actually know what ur talking about.
I read this in the Law and Order voice and then immediately regretted because the way they handled it, I should have been imagining Channing and Jonah on a bicycle
I'm not convinced they are trying very hard lol. It took them 2 days to find a backpack in what should be the most obvious place to search in the city? They're doing the least
So someone tries to kill me - a broke nobody, not really but kinda straight, white man and they will jump to protect me because white men are privileged?
Right?
Right???
Anyone???
Okay I guess I'm screwed.
Classism is the real issue of our age, without a doubt. I wonder if 3 decades from now people will look at it the same way most of us look at racism or sexism...
Yes. I think many of the isms only exist in societies with enough breadth of wealth for some to want to keep their part at the expense of others. Once you squeeze all the wealth into like 10 people I think lots of isms can’t exist in the same way.
There is a good speculative fiction about this by Cixin Liu called For The Benefit Of Mankind - and it has a character called the Last Capitalist. It’s a short but good window into how far it can go!
America seems to think it's not got classism, unlike those pokey Brits. They do though, and it feudal mostly, but they couch it in terms like 'Job Creator' and 'Entrepeneur' instead of 'person with ALL THE MONEY'.
Let's not turn this into a race thing. Of course systemic racism exists but we have to stop looking at society through that lens. It's a class thing. It's rich vs poor. We need to really view it through the lens of a class warfare. The rest is a distraction from those in power.
This! They only assassinated MLK jr after he started including poor whites in his messages. Once he started making it about poor vs rich they killed him because that’s what they’re really scared of.
To be honest, I don't know enough about the entire situation but that doesn't sound unlikely. I can imagine they'd want to stop someone starting a revolution against the ruling class.
And they really ain't doing too good of catching the guy who killed the CEO, and I hope it stays that way, but they're really making you wonder how they're the most funded police force in America.
Isn't the RICH working for even MORE RICH enough to explain it? There is correlation with other characteristics, but this is IMO the basic reason. If this part missed, they will not care - POOR white cis man... such a person would surely deserve it.
While the first panel is still very important, all you need in the second one is “rich”. If any wealthy person got murdered on the street would get this would be the reaction. Ultimately it’s about protecting those with money.
Whatever else motivates cops, I’m thinking lots of them also get screwed by their health insurer. This may be a shooter they aren’t that motivated to find.
LOST: my backpack with a Tommy Hilfiger jacket and Monopoly money in it. The last time I remember having my backpack was in Central Park. If found please contact me so I can retrieve my backpack which is mine and no one else’s. Please share for visibility so that I can recover my backpack, thank you
And as it turns out, there is no difference between those two pictures. But to be fair, the NYPD did find the backpack he left for them. And it contained a jacket and some Monopoly Money. LOL

Consider a fued, think the Hatfields and McCoys if you'd like. Any long standing argument where things have gotten really heated will do.

This kind of talk will get humanity nowhere except in the battlefields and restless streets.
Simply highlight your plight without juxtaposing it with a group that you want to color bad.
We need to heal.

I do believe lgbtq as well as non white crime gets less attention but the big factor is the wealth
Has no one seen Rear window to know why a rear window homage is not the visual to use here for a contrast?
Maybe it's time to target more rich people. You know, just to put that line of defense to a test.
They exist because Rich people need their property protected.
In the rest of the developed world it is a morality issue.
In the USA it just isn’t an issue…
It’s disgusting.
hes a big ceo for a big big company thats it
This is where your dumb ass asks; "Who's Daniel Penny?"

Compared to 325,000 medical bankruptcies last year alone.
If they were serious they’d be offering medical cover for life (even with pre-existing conditions) in exchange for information.

They care nothing for anyone unless they’re rich.

Okay I guess I'm screwed.
It swears.
Bob Dylan said that.
This is a rich/poor thing.
They would be doing the same thing if he died while wearing women's clothes
Maybe they're just not as good as TV makes us think?
it's just a class war... nothing else to it... those with money get protection, those without do not.
no one actually cares about your sexual orientation, not even your family.
i think the kids call it a "nothingburger" now. unless they're busy flying a "oh poor me" flag.
Is it too soon to start whispering the word "Revolution" on social media?
