I think Elon claiming that the site becoming unusable was actually an intentional policy change (that they announced after breaking it?) probably had a lot to do with it
As a long time Twitter person, it's the platform that matters. If I can't read tweets, the platform is dead. Elon and his bullshit, the hate, it's shitty but not impactful to the user experience
It's gone from "I don't like this but it still technically works and a lot of my friends are here so I'm gonna keep using it", to "It is functionally useless"
Yup. 600 limit on an infinite scroll? I'm now scared to even open the app and see what's going on at conventions. Don't want to waste my views. I can at least not feel anxiety scrolling here.
I’m assume most of the people still using Twitter were doing so out of habit/mild-addiction, so they hit the new limit in like 5 minutes and physically couldn’t use the platform anymore.
also, the new limit is 600 for most users, and if it’s counted the same way the view count is, 600 posts just doesn’t take that long to see, especially if you hop between trends in the search tab.

most people may not approve of XYZ but they won't change their habits just because they are now associated with XYZ
it is literally impeding them from doing their habit
also just made the site completely unusable for a lot of people
