If it were a human talking about another human I’d think they’re insecure. But the US economy is pretty robust. And it’s not a zero sum game. Flat out do not understand this strawmanning. My best explanation is jingoism.

One American colleague once told me with absolute certainty in his voice that the UK today does not differ from the Soviet Union in the 1980s, and it even looks the same way, an effect of the communist policies introduced in the UK in the last decade.

One of my favourite examples was when he bundled together the German Greens and the AfD as "those types of parties", in the context of support for Ukraine.
