Sure, outdoor dining structures for 20 people to eat in are being taken down so 2 cars can park for free, but have you considered in some instances it's so only 1 car who did a really lazy job can park for free? (where Gerties' shed used to be)

I think it's more likely they're being removed more because many are past their prime, disgusting rat traps and the new ones have to have the ability to clean underneath.
I didn't blame restaurants. Time, weather, and the use of temporary materials like plywood left a lot of the sheds warped, stained and dirty eyesores. They're also not as easy to mop and clean as an indoor floor, leaving lots of small crumbs to attract mice and rats.
I think not having trash strewn streets is an important part of the process. I've lived in Chicago for 20 years, and this is gonna shock you, but it actually doesn't smell like garbage when you walk down the street in the summer, because we put our garbage in cans. Then move on to the big stuff.
I owned a wrecker company for a number of years, and the city would call us to tow away assholes like this. Not sure about laws there, but in Austin, they got no fucks to give if you do shit like this.
Oh well, at least the mayor behind this will switch parties and deport a bunch of immigrants who've been here for decades so he can get a pardon for accepting bribes from the Turkish government

-New Yorkers, probably.
The obvious implication is to drastically reduce the number of cars in the city. After all, who is the city for, anyways? People, or cars?
