look I get that for some it's easier but I'm not going to delete my account/tweets on X after years of posting educational resources that math teachers and game developers still use today

Start a website, a news letter or resource. Get yourself of the Nazi platform. I get having the resources there, but like - I'd rather take the hit than to be seen on the platform.
And https://archive.org has been unable to save tweets since the idiot in charge of X decided to require login, so Wayback Machine can't save us either.
I deleted 17 years of FB history. I cannot tell you how good it feels. If you don't delete it then leaving your data on X is like giving your ex all your stuff after they fucked your best friend.
we really need a better system for this kind of thing (i.e. to handle the case where you need to migrate from one host to another, without breaking links for anyone).
- you post stuff with that id;
- no one needs to know/care about the hosting provider when they load your posts;
- when you want to migrate, you sign up for a new host, click the 'migrate' button, & it's done. Old URLs are automatically directed to the new host. (They do not reference the old host.)
i've largely stopped posting on twt and bsky both, and mainly just check notifications and do a few replies. i feel like bsky is on the path to twitter ragebaiting much faster than it should be
Your choice is your choice, but I decided that so long as my fingerprints still exist on that place, in a roundabout way I'm still supporting Nazi trash.
Sometimes you need to burn a great work of art simply because the world does not deserve it.
My issue is where the image/video require the context of the text, and to a lesser extent an accessible place to host it all
No doubt it's possible, I just haven't fully got round to it
Thinking out loud, 🤔 if wfdownloader can pull down post. One could probably make a little batch program that convert the data to a markdown post for Hugo static website or similar.
Totally 100%, but remember that content is also value you're providing to X for free and to me that stings.
It is of course completely up to you, though.
It was the same for me. I stopped using it a couple years ago and was hoping it would return to its old self one day. I my account since 2009 and didn't want to delete it for the same reasons, and memories, and real-life connections that since passed away. But to keep it would just benefit the...
..owner, just as any bit of interaction would. I think it will become irrelevant one day like Friendster or MySpace back in the day. I never looked at anything anymore anyway and I had enough. It wasn't easy, but I tried to find everyone on Bluesky/Mastodon, exported my data and deleted it for good.
Some are downloading their tweets and self-hosting. This way others still have access to your invaluable resources while you’re able to close your account.
i downloaded my data so i can write up all the threads i list on my linkedin page or whatever, im sure it would take a lot more time and work for u but i bet it could be done
You also don't wanna delete the account because Twitter reuses old handles. The moment you delete your account someone could pick it back up and pretend to be you.
Respectfully, it’s not just that it’s easier. They are using this platform to monitor and push now state run narratives. Research how social media tracks your phone usage from reliable sources. They sell these data to people who have the same agenda.

It's funny - the underlying internet protocols have functionality to account for this kind of thing. But fancy modern cyberspaces like Xitter don't.
Love your cute fur balls btw. I miss mine.
you can download all your tweets.. i wonder if there is a site where you can display them without being on X......

i was thinking about this lately wrt email:

like, ideally, you:
- have a globally-unique id;
- people can register for such an id (but in a way that is painless compared to registering a domain name);

It says it can back up all text tweets from your bookmark, liked pages too but I’ve not tired that.

thank you for leaving this history
Unless you still need those for cool and helpful reasons too.
