I don’t think you have that long! It’s been a few weeks and world geopolitical, financial and climate stability is teetering - what is it going to be like by 2026, let alone 2028?
Democrats WILL NOT have a better time than now to use their power to stop this insanity. Even if voters are mad at them, there are 1 1/2 years until the midterms. Even if this causes disarray, how can you discern between the current disarray and whatever a shutdown causes. Use politics as a tool!

All well run organizations recognize that when a leadership change becomes necessary, it is best to wait a year or two so that you can avoid those uncomfortable conversations and just hope it plays itself out.

Why wait. Oust him from leadership now. This turncoat behavior is unacceptable and if he can only get a handful of Dems to join him, he's already failed as a leader.
House and Senate Democrats need a rule change that any in leadership positions when the majority is lost go to the end of the line for assignments the next session.
There is no time like the present. This is the defining moment - Schumer failed. Assuming a majority of Democratic Senators vote No on cloture and the CR, then he needs to be replaced ASAP.
Why do we have to wait? Schumer is lame duck, dead man walking. He betrayed his party, there’s no coming back from that and the faster he’s gone, the faster we can get to work fighting.
