It’s possible for a policy to be both just and a short-term political liability. The question we must consider is: how just and how much of a liability?
This tracks with my experience but I think that females simply have more of a visceral reaction to hateful speech. I’m a free speech advocate but also I cringe easier than most men I know. :)
Free speech? How about freedom to get lifesaving reproductive healthcare?!!!? F the f right the F off with your whiny crap. We are bleeding out in parking lots.
I don’t understand what the chart shows. Does it show that much more women than men support Trump suppresses free speech so much that multi-billionaires tuck their tail, kneel, and kiss the ring?
Just last week you told us the anti discrimination and affirmative action policies at the federal government weren’t effective, and you were wrong. Now you’re blaming anti male micro aggressions for the gender gap in “free speech” support? Wow.
So the focus is on liberals that don’t allow free speech. Ok. But sure seems like we’ve got a WH that’s going to have little to no tolerance for public dissent as shown by actions taken toward GOP, media & corporate America. So while busy scolding the left, please keep the right eye open.
So backlash to feminism is what Shor’s saying the data show as the explanation for the gender gap. But since solutions to closing that gap are likely to then spark backlash from women and ensure the gap persists, it just falls into the “in case you were interested” category.
Free speech means the government can't control what you say. It doesn't mean you get to be a racist sexist bigoted asshole online end not suffer consequences for that.
Of course people are responsible for what they say. The issue is what type of speech, if any, deserves societal consequences (which results in a type of censorship) and whom decides these limits.
It should be reasonable to expect that when something is published and is purported to be factual (in print, on line or broadcast) that the publisher take reasonable steps to ensure that the information is truthful. That responsibility belongs to those who publish that information or disseminate it.
While I don’t necessarily disagree with that statement (it’s not always easy to identify truth, especially when it contradicts our beliefs), I’m wondering how it relates to Matt’s piece which is about expressing opinions/ideas
Dumb sluts won’t even let me call them dumb sluts anymore because of woke. Also, girls won’t go out with me because of woke. Mister Trump will fix this.
I don’t even know what an “anti-male micro aggression” looks like, and I’ve been male for over half a century now. I think they’re actually full of shit and just pissed off that their privilege is dwindling.
You've never heard someone derisively called a "mediocre white man" before? Ever hear "mansplaining" or "manbaby" or "manspreading"? These are turns of phrase which, if applied to other groups, would for sure be understood as offensive.
When I type "mediocre" into Google, the suggested autocomplete is "mediocre man" and the first search result for "mediocre man" is r/AskFeminists. So this terminology is widespread in the sort of progressive circles which police others' terminology.
This term is specifically about mediocre men advancing over more capable women. Of course it’s not saying all men are mediocre. I’m a man and am able to understand that and not get all offended.
A combo of incel complaints that women are entering the workforce and competing for jobs that they believe men are entitled to, plus "why are we drafted and they're not?". It gets to the point that men sit in pregnant women's seats on the subway saying that those seats discriminate against men.
I think the incel complaints are more similar across countries than people give credit for. Obviously we don't have gendered conscription, but in both America and Korea status has become less accessible while younger men are have become more status-minded
Yes, and that has nothing to do with whether professors get fired for repeatedly discriminating against students of racial or religious minority background.

And in the country that has the biggest youth gender gap, Korea, the complaints are not about American-style culture wars at all...
