The panopticar features gobble up a lot of battery so drivers/owners don’t always have it on and may only have it on for short parking durations, i.e., not when parked at night in front of their likely camera’d home. And, only certain cameras record so maybe practice your approach.
Depending on where you are in Canada theres a strong chance the cops will put as much effort into someone stickering a Tesla as they do bicycle theft. And if it’s parked it’s very easy to slap one on the back innocuously as you walk behind it (you don’t even have to break pace to do it)
Sentry Mode isn't on in every single Tesla 100% of the time. (It drains the battery!) If the car is in Sentry Mode, the central touchscreen will display a message that is visible through the windows.
Teslas have sentry mode so they'll record. I'm trying to search for camera blindspots to locate good spots on Teslas to put stickers, & this is the best i've found: "The roughly 45 deg angle from the A pillars are a blindspot for Dashcam & Sentry Cam."
Unsure, but posting on a public website about contemplating this sort of thing probably doesn't help in the event that you find a particularly litigious vehicle owner.
Every time I see a parked Tesla, I kick myself that I haven't printed out some handbills with a link to the Tech Won't Save Us episode with Ed Niedermeyer to tuck under their windshield wiper and encourage them to have a listen and rethink their choices.
Yes, they have something called “Sentry Mode”. It basically initiates camera recordings anytime something comes within a certain distance of the vehicle. Anyone approaching a Tesla should make sure they are masked/hiding anything identifying.
Interesting, I have not heard this. The EU has definitely been better at regulating Tesla, so you are probably correct. I’m pretty out of the loop on Tesla’s doing these days, that being said, it’s definitely still a thing here in North America.
There's a woman in France who just got caught by the police because she was keing Teslas in her town. She was recognized thanks to the cars' cameras. So it is also a thing in the EU
Thank you for that clarification! I really wasn’t sure about EU when it comes to Tesla’s Sentry Mode. In that case, I’ll reiterate my original point: protect your ID from the cameras!

Speaking purely hypothetically, of course.
