It’s surprising that a news outlet like the Financial Times needs to be schooled on this, but:
Dear Editors,
When referring to a foreign head of state in a headline, it is customary to capitalize their title, as in, Prime Minister.
To not do so is a profound lack of respect.
Thank you,
A Canadian.
Mark Carney, Canada’s new Prime Minister as of March 10, 2025, has no direct experience as an elected politician prior to his recent appointment. His background is primarily in finance and central banking, not traditional political office.
FT just a little light on Carney’s qualifications, when you are a financial expert on both sides of the pond, you are big grade above what they espoused
Mark Carney is an educated professional with world calibre credentials and credibility.
A serious, principled man with real leadership abilities.
He has no bankruptcies or scandals.
He has been an advisor to both major parties.
A man of strength, honor and integrity.
He is polar opposite to Trump.
TY for posting this! This man Mark Carney is absolutely delightful & I'm encouraged for Canada. :-)
It's also encouraging for us here in the U.S. because there remains a leader in Canada who is not insane.
& he is thoughtful, capable, intelligent, compassionate and funny.
& someone I can get behind.
Justin Trudeau is still Canada's PM. He has yet to present his resignation to Canada's head of state, represented by the Governor General. The GG has to decide to accept that resignation and then select a new PM, with Trudeau's advice. The new PM must present then themself to the GG.
Thank you. But to a very limited extent. I am particularly confounded by "unwritten constitutional conventions". Just love learning. And I think it's important to know how Canada's government works.
Which is why the liberals have chosen a conservative banker who is vague about which benefits he'll be sacrificing for his business buddies as their leader
I heard him when he gushed about getting rid of the carbon tax/rebate. And the part about tax cuts for the wealthy. Less for the poor, more for the wealthy. Truly revolutionary, we have never seen the likes of this before, definitely the change we all need.
You have to understand, in Canadian politics, a first ballot 86% win is massive, especially when compared to the Conservative leader Polievre’s win of 68%.
i'm sure had nothing to do with him having more funding than the rest of the candidates combined and the baking of the business community propping him up, not to mention gettin Jon Stewart to glaze him like he was something special. A lot of forces colluding together to install this guy
Why oh why do we all talk about the non voting , the albatross around voters neck . When anyone says their vote doesn't count I show this. 1+1+1+1+1 +1...... Yes your vote does count . Many is a story of the more deserving candidates loses by single didits
True. Carney needs to call an election right away to carry the momentum. I’m a dual citizen, a Conservative and I will not be voting for PP (first time & only time that I’m voting Liberal. I worry for Canada as we are just as divided as the US.
The odds are on a short time line, but only the inner circle knows at this point. Over the years, I have voted for all the major national parties, sometimes I really like the candidate over a parties platform. My vote doesn’t always go to a winner, but I vote anyways…
… The Liberals aren’t perfect but a country mile better than the alternative. It might be fun to watch Pierre win a minority government and watch him do a Joe Clarke, gone in 8 months after a non confidence vote cuz he has proven he definitely can’t play well with others, but the risk is too much

The way it appears it’s treated like a headline.
My comment stands.

I didn't think of that when I posted, but PM or not, that was not the point of my post.
He will be perfect.
We ALL know he is not a politician! That's a GOOD THING.
Go away with your divisive BS
I'm just sceptical to money people.
I hope I'm wrong,

He has an intellect about a thousand times greater than Donald Trump …
A serious, principled man with real leadership abilities.
He has no bankruptcies or scandals.
He has been an advisor to both major parties.
A man of strength, honor and integrity.
He is polar opposite to Trump.

And have another geriatric president
That's too old.
He was pretty clear on several issues in his speech on Sunday.
Maybe you chose to not hear him? Yeah, that's is, you're just repeating what others have said?
86% approval during the party’s selection process speaks to the confidence they have in his qualifications.
But that’s only hurdle one…
The term ruling denotes an authoritarian regime.
