There are still countries we can run away to and survive. The thing is; most countries in the world hate America and Americans. We are scum to the rest of the world due to imperialist government.
I truly do not understand the appeal of that movie. I get the commentary on class warfare, but it was so hard for me to suspend disbelief to even listen to the commentary.
I had to analyze this movie for a college class and I absolutely despised this movie. Like I know it’s “good” but it drove me nuts how there was literally only the people in the train left in the world and they were all just killing each other.
I feel watching A Special Day with Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni, what fates lie ahead with putting a felon back in the high office of the Presidency.
I watched so many distopyian movies and played so many post-apocalyptic games. I should be well prepared 😎
Let's hope for something warmer than Snowpiercer though. Mad Max anybody?
Nope. not this movie. If you can find it to watch, the one that will be much more appropriate, would be Soylent Green with Charlton Heston. THAT even has climate change stuff in it!
Please please pleaeeeese do not remind me right now.
I’ve been on edge since Nov and I’m like today is the last day without the official tech boys in office. Before the gqp would have the dignity to hide it now they’re showing what the plan is and how we’ll suffer.
I randomly started rewatching Man in the High Castle again a few days ago and it just hits really differently this time. Feels very much like a preview instead of an alternate reality.
Research, and be ready. The time is coming. This timing is not by accident. T will announce he saved TT, and it will be changed, and all of the things we care about will happen behind the scenes again, like they prefer. Mass deportation starts Tuesday. A painter in 1933 had a similar plan.
How loaded it is. We’re definitely entering a time where technology is an issue including IA and nuclear ☢️ bombs. Not to mention disinformation. Good luck to us. May we fight the good fight.
Funny part is that despite the grandiose speeches and Randian preachiness, the working class stopped producing. We only follow the "heroes" as they run away and cower in their bunker.
We're about to see how it goes for everybody else, because the moochers won.
Hosted a film screening on this recently and led a group discussion on how effective the revolt was, how it portrayed revolution and how we want it to be different for ourselves.
I was watching Alien Romulus yesterday. A mining colony 65 ly away in permenant nighttime with all the workers in indentured servitude on a world run by a corporation - that capitalist hellhole future feels a lot closer today.
The entire movie is literally about class warfare.
If our society was Snowpiercer, a train 1000 cars long with 1000 people on board, 1 person would have 135 cars (top .1%), 9 people would take up the next 165 cars (top 1%) and 500 people (bottom 50%) would be squeezed into 30 cars. Yeah...that.
I’ve been watching “Angel” and before that I watched the entirety of “Buffy the Vampire Killer.” I’ll probably return to watching “A Discovery of Witches” on Netflix. That one occasionally gives me goosebumps. Is living among vampires and witches related to my current concerns?
🤯 OK, that's wild! I buy it. As soon as he started getting into the premise, I was thinking "Oh, of course Tilda Swinton's character is Veruca Salt."
Now I've gotta watch Snow Piercer again (Willy Wonka is part of firmware in my brain, so no need).
In these moments, I always do the same.
Just like during the pandemic. I watched so many movies and read so many books on outbreaks, pandemics, horrors, body horror/trauma, illnesses, etc.
This time gotta break out Parable of the Sower, and watch a (literal) cult movie.
Saw a video that links Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to Snowpeircer. Basically, the owner of the train is Charlie, all grown up taking full advantage of Wonka's intentions.
Sure, there are parts of it that really should have been edited out, but there are lots of things we’re likely to see as things get bad, like the volunteer gangs doing things the government isn’t supposed to do.
I’m trying to figure out how to grow my own food since everything is basically poison…also not enough people talking about this but it’s expected by 2050 we will have a hard time growing crops because the soil is too nutrient deficient, good bye coffee and much more potentially
V for Vendetta is a better film that tells us where we are headed. Otherwise, if you think we are approaching an apocalypse...watch "Threads". You will never sleep soundly again after watching it.
I can look out my window and see classes. Americans apparently will need to be eating each other or parts of themselves before they will object to their treatment by those in power.

The enemy is slow and stupid, (and often smelly), but still dangerous in large numbers.

Actually, remove the fiction.
I just can't watch anything that reminds me of the dystopian world we're living in rn, it's too depressing
