Mr. Brad Karp, Managing Partner at Paul Weis, well deserves this remarkable, scornful rebuke and public shaming from the great Judge Simon Rifkind’s granddaughters, Amy Rifkind and Nina Rifkind, both of whom are practicing lawyers.

When you cower in darkness, the scorching light permeates through the blind spots. How can you uphold and preserve the law when you acquiesce to a traitor, who is upending the rule of law?
In Germany people like Brad Karp were called Mitläufer. Like Erwin Bumke. Bumke never publicly embraced Nazism, but he enabled it and died with it. A classic case of an establishment figure who chose institutional survival over resistance—and paid the price in history.
I salute Judge Luttig for bringing this to our attention and his integrity, the Rifkind sisters for their eloquent statement, and all the law firms who refused to bend the knee. For Karp, Skadden, and the rest who took the low road- may they recant and regain their integrity whilst they still can.
All of this screams that this is a humongous 1st Amendment issue. I don't understand how lawyers, who are literally the main line of defense of free speech, are suckling on an 🍊 teat. That puts them squarely on the authoritarian side and I can only hope people remember who surrendered their rights.
Wonder if Kamala Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff, will take a stand now that his firm has joined the $100 Million Kiss-Donald's-Ring Club! Let's see how patriotic he is. I think it'll hurt her reputation as well as his if he doesn't quit!
There was a clean break in the 1980s. NY law firms got caught up in the Wall Street P/E frenzy and the need to make the kind of money that the bankers were all making. It changed their recruiting and the people who joined in the 1980s are running the firms today. They have no culture.
Ethics and morality aside, public condemnation and reproach for cowardly behavior must be greater than the rewards for capitulation to prevent further erosion of the rule of law.

“As you face other decisions going forward, unless you prioritize your "responsibilities both to
our profession and our country" and "redevelop muscle and determination" to protect the "prizes
of our civilization,”
I agree, Judge. It's both courageous and heartbreaking at the same time. When we finally get to the other side of everything, there's going to a great need for a whole lot of healing.
As a former clerk, I know the familial bond between judges and their clerks. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to see some of your former protégés lobby for, and/or be complicit in, these anti-American, anti-democratic pogroms. Your powerful voice in these difficult times will not be forgotten.
It nauseates me to read the "excuse" for providing millions of $$ of legal time to conman, rapist, & fascist, 🍊💩 I can't even bear to type his name. 😥 It brings tears to my eyes that the people in positions of power w/$$ are ok w/bringing our country down. While us peons struggle. In America.
Your honor isn't this racketeering & extortion by the government? Going after the lawyers & then after they promise free services to the tune of $40 mill, $ 100 mill a perfect example of extortion & violation of RICO.The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) by Trump & his Admin?
