My pit will happily keep both locked in tight. For him the game is only about possession. When the game is over it's then complete destruction. I now give him 2 balls (pre punctured) so I can throw for the spaniel mix who just wants to retrieve forever w/o the thief getting the ball.

Mine decides one of the balls is the only true ball half way through and just runs over to the other ball with the preferred ball in his mouth
