RFK Jr is "critiquing" healthcare in the same way my dog "critiques" a plant by pissing on it. The dude does not give a flying fuck about the cost of medical care, lol. He just hates that vaccination saves children's lives. His beliefs are not at all comparable to what Luigi did.
I simply do not see RFK Jr as a populist and I don't think his nomination can be seen as any kind of result of populist fervor. He's just a rich Kennedy that Trump likes because Kenndys are seen as important. There is no interest in fixing healthcare on the right. They love it the way it is.
Part of my reaction has been to block the LA Times "channel" in my Apple News feed. They are boycotted and dead to me now, along with the Washington Post.
Wither and die if you are going to behave this way, f'ing fascist oligarchs!
It's incredible that the LA Times would go so far out of its way to support an administration so spectacularly incompetent and malevolent. Or it should be incredible -- instead it seems to be the new normal.
IF it's over at some point, the US treasury will probably have been gutted by then, leaving the country to pick up the pieces without the necessary funds to do so.
Ol' Pat Soon-Schlong really isn't that bright if he thought he'd get away with this BS. If we've learned anything the last few years - these billionaires are really not the geniuses everyone wants to think they are.
“Many worry their agenda will ultimately be purely destructive and simply further feed the private profit-making machine. After all, destruction is easy, but building new systems and improving existing institutions requires competence, vision, and hard work.”
I am really surprised how much liberty can be taken by an editor, especially to convey a sentiment not expressed by original material. Why not just not publish it?
Here's Wonkette writing up your correct ending to an op-ed. There is no excuse for what the LA Times did; not even Complying in Advance. The purpose of an op-ed is to make the rich uncomfortable and to make the murderous rich fear for their lives
Horrific LA Times censorship: Another ominous sign the United States is turning into Communist China.
Also:The original article is a horrific example of the US misuse of 'populism': which is really when politicians pretend to embrace popular causes for their own gain. Like Trump does.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the nation’s health agencies: anger at the wanton greed underlying America’s health systems has reached a fever pitch, and it will not be held back any longer. Major changes are coming, but they may leave us even worse off than we already are.
All those listed should be considered enemies of the state and traitors. They're crippling our country and making it easy for our enemies to do whatever the hell they want. I fear it's gone too far, and it's already too late.
When we were brexited, the main media channels fell in line with the far right. This led to the emergence of the Bylines network (https://bylinesnetwork.co.uk/) You can build something similar in the US.
LA Times should nix the Op Eds altogether. Embarrassingly corrupt editing, added to downright banning of the board's political/policy endorsements if not okayed by its owner.
I can't be the only one who is old enough to realize that the Trump appointees are actually not critical of for profit healthcare, but part of a long tradition of anti-regulation strategies pursued by the industries positioning themselves as 'alternative medicine'.
I say that as someone who has used & studied folk treatments for 40+ years, and seen the consistent claim that 'regulations will stop you using folk medicine' relentlessly pushed by the industry that gave us GNC and $40 kale smoothie powder.
Well, since he owns NantWorks, a highly tech heavy diversified biotech company, one can’t be too surprised. A system dealing with root cause issues is antithetical to his model.
@ericreinhart.bsky.social Thank you so much for this article. This is exactly the reform this country needs.
It is disgraceful that the politicians don’t work for the people. Food manufacturers make food for the EU regulations and for the US they feed us unhealthy and sometimes harmful foods.
I saw the headline pop up on my phone’s news notifications and was appalled by it. The LA Times is behind a paywall for me, so I couldn’t read it. The manipulation of the article’s intent is so dirty.
A really sobering piece, except that it makes me want to have several drinks. Trump46½ would never adopt such a populist agenda, no matter how popular he'd be— it wouldn't make Trumps or friends richer. They're not conservatives with a higher purpose (even if wrong), they're fascist greedheads.
first off - nice work, good piece.
But I find it hard to blame Biden, his first responsibility was the pandemic response. And he did a great job - that's why it's easy to forget that only 4 years ago we were storing our dead in refrigerator trucks. Single provider wasn't a thing for him, still...
S. J. Perelman once wrote, "I asked the porter to get me a newspaper and unfortunately the poor man, hard of hearing, brought me The Los Angeles Times."
Thank you for standing up for what's right, The LA Times are now another publication I will not read since they too are capitulating to an infantile dictator.
It’s a phenomenal feat of editing to convert your actual article, as written, into a positive spin for Trump/RFKjr. The LA Times publishing their edit was nothing short of journalistic malpractice.
Like you're given an opportunity to endorse the (fake example) 'we love everyone' party of Denmark but then find out your endorsement was edited to be used by (real garbage) AfD in Germany.
1. Shame on the LA Times for butcher-editing your piece.
2. I question the realism of your notion that folks in favor of violence prevention, and increased investment in public health will somehow join a "populist" movement animated by woo woo wellness and anti vax conspiracy.
3. Thanks to NR.
Maybe people shouldn't trust the LA Times, just a thought. Don't send your op-eds there. Of course all these newspapers pick and choose. For years now I've had all my pandemic related Letters to the Editor rejected from my local newspaper who has pieces about covid quoting MBAs instead of doctors.
The New Republic headline is arguably even more misleading - this editorial barely mentions RFK Jr! it starts by linking him to populism and ends by acknowledging he is a grifter faking that populism, but 95% of the piece doesn't mention him or explain his grift at all...
Glad you got it out to get it published. The corporate media run 'Times' be it NY, Washington, or LA need to be scrupulously avoided by anyone who cares about truth.
UCLA needs to fire Dr Patrick Soon-Shiong and his medical license revoked for supporting anti-vaxxer and know-nothing RFK Jr. What happened to the Hippocratic Oath, “First Do No Harm”?

excellent work
As one of millions of chronically ill Americans, this is an article we’ve needed for a long, long time.
RFK jr isnt angry at the system, he simply looks at how he can exploit it.
This is a perfect example of why we need to dismantle the news monopoly.
Billionaire owners will never allow conversation that doesn't fit their narrative and their ultimate goal of power and profit!
Make something that everyone else can point to as a ground source of truth on this lunatic. The AI engines will then include this.
We will soon likely lose social media as a communication channel for organizing.

What a pity.
Doesn’t mean we stop writing them though.
Not at all.
It is disgraceful that the politicians don’t work for the people. Food manufacturers make food for the EU regulations and for the US they feed us unhealthy and sometimes harmful foods.
This also needs to be exposed as elegantly as this article so that all of society can easily comprehend the facts.
Thank you again!
