As a Former food service worker; I mean, if it’s a service dog, they’re just doing their job, A+, good for them, let them be, nothing you can do. If not, there’s literally health code shiz that means they can’t be in there, v much remember having to kick people out because of it
Can I bring my 15 pound cat? He’s a sweet boy. He only sometimes bites and scratches me. He loves to sing loudly at all hours. Your allergies are not HIS problem.
Ok but seriously: it’s up to the restaurant owners. We are guests and patrons in their establishments and they have some rights too. Not allowing pets or firearms or provocative T-shirts or people under a certain age are not things covered by anti-discrimination laws.
love it, and i hate the hall monitor freaks that want to police people bringing their dogs around. people should pull the sticks out of their ass about stuff like that. if a dog is causing a problem thats one thing, but thats true for anyone else too.
British perspective… politely croon and pat dog while vowing to mention it at any given opportunity for the next twenty years and never patronise said establishment again
if there’s outdoor seating and they’re sitting outside that’s fine, otherwise no. (if you saw me post this with the other form of they’re no you didn’t)
Is it? I would have thought ensuring that people who need assistance animals have quality, healthy animals that are properly trained and funded was the opposite of ableist
As I suspected as often happens in the USA as well, some people are ignorant of what their country's/states laws are regarding assistance/service animals.
I'm sorry you think that way. Might be worthwhile to ask a disabled person why it's ableist. Not familiar with Australia's assistance animal regulations and not having luck finding country wide regs. Can you provide a link from a govt source please?
nor should it ever become one!! it scares me when people advocate for this. do they want the government to have a master list of all the disabled people and their disabilities?? that’s… horrifying
Big assumption that the government would hold the register. In Australia the government does have a list of all disabled people and their disabilities. It’s called the National Disability Insurance Scheme and it’s how we ensure and fund the full inclusion of disabled people in society
I was literally talking about service/animal federal law, in the USA and subsequently in Australia since you stated AS registration is required there so yes, that would be the assumption.
Internet seems to disagree there is a list of all disabled people in Aus. Do you have a link to your claim?
as the owner of an 85lb dog: nah. Some people are afraid of big dogs, or allergic, and I don’t want to force strangers to be in a confined space with my giant pupper.
Plus my fella would likely try to steal food from people and/or the shelves
I’m so sick of people bringing their dogs everywhere. Especially where food is sold or served. Other people have allergies or aversions. We don’t all love your doggies and we particularly don’t like when you let them touch us and get our pants dirty.
If they rest their giant head on my table and look at me soulfully, then it’s encouraged. If they ignore me but lavish attention on my husband, it is absolutely forbidden.
There’s a couple bars I enjoy with some regular dogs who seem to enjoy it and be enjoyed by the patrons (mostly regulars themselves), but too many carers overestimate their dog’s manners as well as their dogs own desire or comfort in such settings.
But it does affect other people. I’ve witnessed terrified children, seen elderly people sent arse-over-tit, blocked thoroughfares, dog fights among other unpleasantness. Dogs don’t belong in crowds or where food is served
Those are definitely unpleasant things that could occur. However, I'm wondering why the people with dogs are the restricted ones in your mind? I've seen the exact things happen simply due to crappy humans. Again, maybe to each their own and avoid what you don't want to experience.
It should be fucking obvious. Take your dog for walks along approved trails, or to play in leash off areas. But the rest of us do not have to put up with your animal in places where we shop or eat.
You can tell a human to shut the f**k up and get out. The dog doesn't know its being horrible. It's the owners fault. No one is blaming the dog here. It's not fair for anyone else or the dog.
Trained service animal or get out. Pets don't need to be in food places. If your pet can't survive being at home for a couple of hours, you have other issues.
Also, have you been to a dog bar? The legit kind with a dog park. They're great, and everyone has agreed to visit the place with pets.

Hate dogs in restaurants.
Dogs in bars, now, that’s a gray area…
Seriously though, I took it to mean a 80lb pet dog versus a service animal.
I say absolutely on pet dogs, if they're well behaved!
Service animals of course are allowed if the rules of the ADA are followed.
