we are witnessing - and i emphasize witness because that’s all congress is doing - the greatest political purge of public servants in generations. it should be the leading media story, since it’s likely to badly damage/destroy everything from public health, labor, security, diplomacy etc.

They haven’t produced any evidence of actually cutting spending. The monetary consequences of purging the federal workforce and chaotically shuttering large agencies are enormous. Taxpayers will pay more because of this.

IMO, it goes beyond this. We're not witnessing the adding of additional burdens on citizens: we're witnessing the destruction of the notion of citizenship itself. The vast majority of us are being turned into feudal subjects if not slaves.

Superbly put. They’re dismantling the federal government and it can only lead to harming Americans one way or another: scrapping essential services like disaster response, consumer protections, unbiased prosecutions - just to name a few. Media needs to wake up and report bluntly on the situation.
