I knit on circulars. I knit socks, but always TAAT. I give hats, scarves, mittens/gloves, and shawls to family, friends, neighbors, and charity. No point in trying to sell, people won't pay. Knit blankets, sweaters, "toys" are for family only. I always have a dishcloth on needles.

I’ve gone from straight needles to circular ones
Using theme as if they were straight ones.
That makes the project lay more in the centre of my lap and the weight doesn’t become so bothering for my hands. I will never go back to straight needles again.

Cool how everybody has their own ways - I adapt patterns to knit in the round (hate seaming), knit for myself or to give it to people I know, do one project at a time, am mainly self-taught, and have come some way in getting along with charts.

I love knitting hats and scarves and bowl cozies (knit and felted) but that's about it because like not being able to read music I can't follow a pattern.

My crafting habits cost me money but bring me peace and joy. Do use charts, circular needles and make socks (very portable projects) but no toys. Also needlepoint, quilt and sew garments, bead etc, etc. Keeps introvert me satisfied. Work full time too. Housework not so much🥳

I’m 47 and was taught to knit as a toddler by my mum on straight needles. I stopped knitting in 20s-early 30’s life got in the way. Came back to it and have only used circulars since and knitted socks and shawls for the first time. I want to knit more garments. I prefer written instructions.

I was surprised when I started again that it was like I never stopped. So much changed though, as a child it was patterns and wool from magazines and the local wool shop, now it’s Raverly, Etsy, Instagram, YouTube and hand dyers etc. it was like stepping into a whole new world.

I knit for family and myself. Tip re: cables - I print out a hard copy of the chart and then colour code it using highlighters (then colour code the same symbol in the side bar). Also use cable hooks rather than needles - when it’s time to knit stitches from the hook, slide onto the needle and knit

I primarily use circulars these days, but I learned on straight needles and have a full set of them that I received as hand-me-downs from my grandmothers and I'm still very fond of them.

(Charts are the bane of my existence, especially as a left-handed knitter. I'll use them but I won't enjoy it!)

I haven't made anything with straight needles in forever (save the straight double pointed type). I started knitting due to severe reactive arthritis affecting my hands & almost had to quit.Then I found that circulars(used as straights) take the weight off my arms, wrists, shoulders. It is MAGIC.

I've never taught knitting, but I have taught needle turn applique at a local patchwork shop. At 43, I went back to school and did a teaching degree and taught until I retired. The last ten years, I was teaching grade 1/2's, which I loved.

I use circular needles too that are interchangeable. I knit a toddler pullover flat that was made with bulky yarn that worked up quick and was easy to assemble.

I just had to frog a hat knit in the round because I somehow twisted the foundation row. Fun times… Good thing I was just a few rows in.

I found experimenting with different techniques was useful as my tension was erratic. I now knit in what I think is called the English style and Purl Portuguese style and have produced some pieces I'm not ashamed of.

I won't do commissions/sales. Yarn can be expensive. I'm not a fast knitter so time & effort plus yarn costs I wouldn't profit from it. I knit on my own time & gift to friends & family.

I have at least 30 more projects but am not actively working on them for some reason. I only use metal circulars, my straights are birch, bamboo, or carbon fiber. Projects get finished eventually or they might get frogged. 18 socks in various stages, 12+ sweaters, 9 shawls, 5 afghans, etc.

I list them in a journal and mark them off as they are completed or frogged. I also have list for quilts and for needlework (embroidery, crewel, needlepoint). And I'm reupholstering 2 easy chairs. Getting more done since I retired from tech mgmt a year ago. I also garden, make sourdough and bake.

I'm 62 and learned knitting to make clothes for my dolls when I was about 10. I use Cubic square circular needles now as they're easier on my hands and I have 3 v bouncy dogs! I've only ever knitted one pair of socks and hate sewing up and charts. Recently taught myself to crochet.

Hey Debbie! I'm 63 too. I learned to make socks when my mother-in-law gave me a pair (the note said) "half finished, not for lack of time, but in case you'd like to learn to turn a heel." We spent Chistmas afternoon at her kitchen counter, and I learned. Have been making socks ever since.

They are by Addi. A set of 3 dp needles that bend in the middle. They are game changer. Although I’ve only made mittens with them so far they are so much nicer than dp’s or magic loop.
