Pautje, I understand what you are getting at. But I don't think the US follows the EU's rules of the appellation. In the US, any sparkling wine is called Champagne, even if it was made in the US. It is just the way it is there.
It's true, and it's not very good. American "champagne" is all I had tried for years and didn't like it. Then a friend sent me a bottle of Dom Pérignon champagne for one New Years, and it was, "Oh! This is what they're talking about!"
That's not as dumb as it sounds. I mean, if people are going to pay for that green beer, obviously they'll pay whatever it takes to pretend to be Irish for a day.
Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) I believe most American Guinness products are actually made in the US. So I doubt it would have much effect. The Champagne and whiskey products on the other hand will take a hit.
There can never be Champagne produced in the US as Champagne can only be produced in the Champagne, France. The USA can only produce sparkling wine, but T. is to dumb to understand that.
The US doesn't even export whisky, it imports whisky and exports whiskey.
Also, oh no! american consumers won't be pumping up the price of Lagavulin any more just because they saw Ran Swanson drink some on Parks and Recreation.
It’ll be great watching the USA Viniculture industries immediately ramp up to fill the demand for cheaper booze. Option A) water down the product using much needed firefighting juice. Option B) hit the tequila
In fact, the North Coast Brewing (California) stout Old Rasputin is far superior to Guinness, but I agree with Larry's point. Such a brilliant, far-sighted businessman, our Donald. (O.T. Americans insist on drinking dark beers icy cold, which is so wrong.)
Every accusation is a confession. US tariffs are about improving the US economy but all other countries' tariffs are "hostile" and "nasty". It really bakes my noodle trying to understand how his voter base can possibly take him seriously. What a fucking clown.
Hubertine @sabine34.bsky.social, you probably already heard this. 👆
But if not I thought I should point you to it. I don't know anything other that what the post says. But since this may well affect your business, I thought I should make you aware.
Yes I heard of this. It will not affect my business at all. USA are not a big importer of champagne and french wines. Only rich people can afford french wines and champagne in the USA. I think this category of people will still buy them. UK and Germany for ex. import more champagne than the USA
In fact, in quantity UK imports more than the USA. Champagne imported in the USA comes from "big" wineries owned by big companies like LVMH is the most expensive. Rich people in the USA will continue to drink these champagnes even if it's more expensive. They don't care.
Most of americans have never drunk champagne (I mean real champagne), because it's already very expensive. To be honest, this tariff means that if less champagne is exported, the prices will go down in Europe, which is good for the domestic consumption. Prices have become crazy recently.
He says he'll enact the tariff "shortly" if EU doesn't reverse its tariffs. So if he does do it, probably won't take effect until after St. Paddy's Day.
I have a question!!
On the 🍊 turds platform. Are you allowed to post replies on the 🐂 shit 💩 he spews? I am guessing not as I do not see where there are replies. Just so called re-crap and likes.
Jamaica has some other great variants too. This is my first time hearing about this though: Guinness Punch:
'A popular Jamaican drink, the cocktail combines Guinness with milk, condensed milk, and spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, creating a creamy and delicious beverage' 🤩☘️🍻 I'm in!
This is about the original Guinness stout. There are lots of Guinness branded breweries making lots of different things. If Americans want to drink a pint of original Guinness stout it's being imported from Ireland.
The extra tariff on Champagne might not even reduce sales in the US that much. These types of products aren't consumed by ppl living on a tight budget.
*chuckle* Filipina here...my male relatives would agree with you, all of them being San Miguel fans since the day they were legal. US beer apparently is just flavored water to them!
Oh, god forgive me for the language, Larry, but to that I’ve just gotta say, “What a f***ing moron!!!” 🙄
What a grasp of History he has…NOT!! (Yeah, as in that’s HisStory & he’s sticking to it, the effing eejit).
Obviously none of this will affect the full-fat-Coke-addicted F.O.T.U.S. himself.
In 2018, Guinness opened its first brewery in 64 years in the United States, in Baltimore, Maryland. This US location will focus on "special news" and Guinness Blonde American Lager, but not the classic stout, which will still only be brewed in Dublin.
So I suppose the White House will be serving purely US wines at state dinners. Assuming anyone wants to be fêted in such a manner the way things are going.

From across the pond: F.** Trump with a five pound stone. That’s US pounds. And hopefully a stone from Mt Rushmore.
"Any Old Port in a Storm"
It is a bit like calling something a Hoover, even though it is made by Vax. Everybody got used to calling it a hoover. That is just the way it is.
Could get iffy 😜
The wine producers in Democrat California will be happy bunnies!
Thanks

Welcome to the shit show we’ve been dealing with.
There is sparkling wine, but sparkling wine cannot compare to Champagne, Der könig aller weine.

Sorry if this does make things hard for you.
Comité Champagne figures.
US are a huge importer of Champagne.
Wine and Champagne are most likely something mainly woke Democrats drink

And American Champagne! His lack of knowledge is astounding, but not unfamiliar.

A little different to Dublin brewed Guinness, but still marketed as ‘Guinness’.

Not as ‘Hop House 12’ or something.

Champagner business in the U.S. 😂
I'm not defending them. Not have I ever tasted their beverages but they obviously believe that they can call their product champagne.
