Yeah I think a lot of people think retro gaming is a nostalgia thing for everyone when actually for a lot of people it's about just being able to play stuff they missed out on (especially in the UK and Europe). We had to rent a megadrive.

The US-centric game thing drives me mad. I only knew one kid with a NES, he had the Mario/Duck Hunt combo and struggled to find games for it. By the time I started seeing the NES being really pushed it was nearly over, like 1991.

Oh yeah. CPC 6128 for me with the weird 3” disks, also remember typing BASIC program listings into it from old magazines and the magic of getting anything to work.

It was replaced with a Pentium in 1996, just in time for Duke3D and a years-long BUILD.EXE obsession. 🤜

Yeah that could be nice, maybe I should give that a shot this year 🙂 Really wish I still had all the crazy .maps I made back in the day… so many crimes against the Build engine lost like tears in rain.

hilariously i did my first “modding” work on that Amstrad CPC – spending hours typing in a full game from one of those old ready meal programme books, a Bomber-clone in which i swapped the ID of the bomb symbol for a smiley face lol

I dread to think how bland gaming would be if the UK's contribution to it was removed, so many studios would have never been founded and so games would have never been made.
