it does feel incredibly goofy to worry about things like accuracy, ethics, reporting standards and conflicts of interest at my job when those things don't really seem to matter on a national level

On the issue of scarcity, in the last ASNE diversity survey (2017), I learned Asian women were 2.39% of all staff in US newsrooms. As a non-American, I'm already a statistical anomaly.
I really tried to report on this during my media reporting fellowship at CJR, but the knowledge never became power, only more detail about the level of discrimination I have experienced throughout my career
i think we are in a societal slide towards slop, and the only actual way to counteract it is to remember, hold on to, and thereby remind people what non-slop looks like
one major challenge is non-slop takes time and work to produce and the ongoing pressure to produce more, faster pushes paragraph factory workers towards slop all the time
