The options were Kamala and this. To think this fundamentally broken guy was elected, a needy petulant man who requires constant displays of obscene obsequiousness to validate his kingly charade. If ever there’s a reminder that informed votes matter.
Did people collectively forget those campaigns? Or the numerous comments about his base not even needing to vote? Please don't spread misinfo that we voted for this.
To be fair to the founders: we stopped using it in any way resembling how it was supposed to work. I still think it’s dumb, but the state by state winner takes all strategy is the worst possible iteration.
These days I’m not sure that their reason for not allowing average Americans to vote was their concern about intelligence as much as they wanted the money people in charge and to be making decisions for other money people.
I feel like they assumed that anyone who would attempt to run for office would have at least a tiny speak of morals/ethics and would actually treat the oath of office seriously.
They never saw such a morally bankrupt person like Trump rising as he has.
No, they literally spent half their time talking about tyrants and how the presidency might be captured by one, and built checks and balances into both the government *and* the election process. We’ve disabled or let one party capture all those checks, so here we are.

1. The Electoral College was supposed to protect against a populist demagogue.
2. The president was not supposed to be above the law.
3. Congress was supposed to have balls.
But I will still bet on the public.
