They were freshman reps together, fought good fights legislatively and respected each other and were actual friends. I think it’s important for people to hear decency right now.

Pat Garofalo (GOP), former colleague and friend of Hortman, in tears describing her as the most consequential congressional leader in a hundred years, and also as a good person and friend: she checked on him after the huge DFL win in 2022 to make sure he was ok after the loss.
