I *implore* you all to listen to @mollyjongfast.bsky.social's conversation with @preetbharara.bsky.social
I *promise* it will make you feel better.
Bharara makes many of the arguments I've been trying to make but unlike me he comes with the credentials.
(ie, we're not going to become Russia)

The pervasive funereal feeling is taking its own toll right now, when part of what we need to recall is humans CAN overcome bad times & solve huge problems.

And while I think he tends to catastrophize a bit too much (not that it's unwarranted) I think he's basically right here.
But the question is not whether the Musk Presidency isn't going to succeed in doing unthinkable damage.
The question is whether we win the long game
And maybe, from the ashes, we can build something better.
Russia has universal healthcare, good public schools and great free public universities.
But I’ll listen to it bc I need a tiny glimmer of hope.
This is much more of a long-term big picture take.
We've done stuff on all of this.
There’s NO benefit to acting like this is anything other than an existential threat that needs complete & absolute eradication. If that’s an overreaction, then so what? Better than underreacting and dying.
We are facing an existential crisis.
Thinking about how we win in the long run is not the same as not taking that seriously.
