Especially with a fascist USA.
Could it be the multiple SEZs and Freeports sound the UK that contravene EU regulations and would have to be dismantled inconveniencing their corporate backers and future consultancy jobs?
(By the way, agree with you on what would be best for the country - just not convinced the electorate is any brighter than it has been previously.)

same people have made everyone poorer and increased effective tax on everyone to the highest rate ever whilst executing the biggest heist of public money ever over the last decade or so? It’s in plain sight but lots of people I speak to seem to be blaming a new government.
They don't want to take difficult decisions.
They don't have the testicular fortitude to admit the UK made a mistake.
They still they can hold on to power by pandering to the right and ignoring the supplicant left who they successfully took for granted last year.
Just got to keep pushing them.
