Preserve your damned peace. It's ludicrous to think that your "engagement" on social media with nazis and rightwingers is some sort of actual "battle of ideas." Please get over yourselves. LOL.

Eight years of reasoned engagement resulted in where we are now. As they say, elections have consequences and a lot of people are about to experience that reality
Yeah I just read today in an article that "Twitter is where the fight is" which I just find so pompous. Of course the "fight" is there because the site is a never ending flame war. Dialogue requires two (2) good faith participants!
Also, I think it's interesting that people have turned social media into a LABOR. Why? Some people want to just watch reality tv and post in peace, lol.
Exactly sir. Itβs not like we donβt already know their βideasβ. These are intellectual giants waiting to share a nuanced opinions. Iβm old enough to remember David Duke, grand wizard and GOP congressman. Itβs all the same, over and over.
Speaking as someone who flirted with being an edgelord after college, you are absolutely correct. The whole point is just to rile people up, thereβs no good faith in those interactions.
I'd say it's pissing in their cereal, but they're nazis. They use piss instead of milk in cereal by default. If anything you're watering it down compared to the piss they are used to.
You have to get *really* vile and personal to catch one off guard and it's just not worth the effort. Block 'em.
I understand. I think everyone does what they need to do for as long as they need to. I stayed there at least 3 years too long. Left at the end of last year & haven't missed it.
In the same place as everyone's mythical checks from a very wealthy elderly Jewish man who funds mostly middle of the road liberal nonprofits who shall not be named.
I thought it was a useful endeavour for a while, but I've since realised those discussions on here are probably only making things worse: Cementing division and reinforcing barriers with neither side ever likely to change their mind.
Right. Weβre in a Reality War. Donβt engage with people who literally canβt agree that the Earth is round and that vaccines work. You simply canβt win an information debate with them.
Engagement with those types is a bit like arguing that a wall is a door. You can keep walking into it, but you wonβt get anywhere and youβll just have bruises when itβs over.
True. But the next chapter of this battle now shifts to a primal Christian delusion of retribution against the βenemy withinβ. That is everyone non MAGA. The crusaders are coming and they are not the good guys
Lots of people seemed to agree with the "Don't read the comments" ethos. Now that nearly everything is "the comments" we need some further refinement of the idea, I suppose. "Don't make your online life into the comments" or something.
The only reason to engage directly with a fascist in public is if you are a public figure in a big debate, or you're in a position to get them out of it - you're a trusted elder, friend, relative, etc.

But is time to block them and do something.
I live in AL. If I want to engage with MAGA nuts I just have to stand in my driveway. SM is where I go to get away from everyone around me.
Like bitch please, that's not a battle that's a performance. And just like many performances, it's designed to get the people in charge richer.
It takes more than a social media account
With nazis who dared to appear en masse in their neighborhood
Local News covered it but couldnβt find mention on Sunday 2/9 news shows
Wonder why- they gave Charlottesville nazis, who werenβt challenged, tons of coverage.
