Against all of the contrary evidence, I continue to believe in human beings. Despite our flaws and our fuck ups, I think we can do and be better. I appreciate all of the people who keep my faith going.

I am convinced the Democratic Party is as weak and paralyzed over fascism in 2025 as the Whig Party was weak and paralyzed over slavery in 1850. When the Whigs finally collapsed in 1854, a strong, activist Republican Party emerged and saved the US from disunion. The Democratic Party needs to go.
People have done incredible things in the worst of circumstances, as discussed by Viktor Frankl regarding the Holocaust, for instance. I believe humans connected to their meaning-in-life do great things.
I think of her a lot along with many other ancestors. I commune with them and they always give me strength. "Keep going," I hear my grandmother say and her mother before her and her mother... Just get to tomorrow and then begin again.
π― When people say I'm overly optimistic and that the degree of change that we're fighting for isn't possible/realistic, I always ask them to imagine telling that to a relative of theirs who was part of an earlier struggle (suffrage, civil rights, etc). Very effective way of getting them to join us β
I firmly believe that most people tend to act in reflection of the systems they live within. A lot of people running around doing harm doesn't mean humans are fundamentally evil, it means they live in a system that rewards that behavior.
I mean, we have had the means of destroying the entire habitable planet instantly, via nukes, for decades and yet we have not. That's gotta count for something.
You and people I've met through following you are a big part of what gives me hope and a sense of direction. Thank you for all your work. I believe in ppl because I know there are ppl like you.
This is so hard some days to believe, but ya know, that's the only way we have a future. Little moments of compassion people do keep me going honestly <3
My faith in humanity is really the only thing keeping me going. I see real social progress taking place in other parts of the world and it gives me a lot of hope for the future of the species.
π― Agreed β€οΈ Also remember that the "contrary evidence" mainly gets the spotlight. There is far more evidence to indicate that essentially all human beings are very decent and trying to do/be better than the *dehumanizing system* that is imposed on us. This realization = change β #organize #humanity
Veterinary work will test you in that regard, but it also allows you to meet the most remarkable and compassionate people. The puppies don't hurt either. Max here is a 4 and a half month old American bulldog puppy.
It really shouldnβt be hard; this work requires a belief in other humans as a foundation. And all that takes is seeing our own inner kindness and believing it exists in most other people, too,
Was in a small town out of state yesterday and was heartened by a flyer for a demonstration for democracy the next day. People care everywhere. People are acting everywhere. And we can build on that
Simply too many generations have endured and created miracles to do more than that and even thrive and truly live in dire realities from generations past to not believe that.
Somehow someway we will come to terms with a better future for all.
I think being in California and having so many personal wins has caused me to become a radical optimist. I wish I could figure out a way to spread that to those who haven't. I'm glad I've finally figured out I can do cute birds instead of just angry memes. It's a step!
I definitely think that having been part of many projects over the years that have impacted people's live positively keeps me grounded. I'm not an optimist but I definitely DO hope. It's held me in good stead. Being an agent in your own life and world always beats being a spectator.

Thank so for all of the hard work you do yourself to spread information and hope.
We have designed devices that allow us to hear space. π€― We have such a capacity for greatness. I don't think I will ever give up on us.

We just need to remember we outnumber them motherfuckers and that we still have options.
I host an anti-racist book club.
Iβve pitched stories to local news outlets on whatβs happening around trans kids and my trans son and I have been interviewed.
Nothing huge. But, engaged, community-minded.
Somehow someway we will come to terms with a better future for all.
