I think a lot about when to and when not to use the language of my enemies. So instead of referring to an end of DEI, I call it the purge of women and people of color from government. Instead of saying woke, I would say being concerned about human beings, particularly the most vulnerable 🤷🏻♀️
I'm bored of it, but I'm white, so I must be lying about that. Gonna go eat my bland food and check in with all the whites about tomorrow's dress code, then do what all white people do on a Thursday night - watch re-runs of Friends and pretend Joey is the DEI friend.
Um, that "white people" term is more than a little overbroad. At least this white person feels that way. We or they -- take your pick -- are not a monolith where we or they think as one.
Why would you say that to me in such an insulting way? When has that phrase ever worked? Why not talk to me human and human and try to convince me that I am mistaken?
Don't worry, I'm 75, the timer is ticking down. Soon you'll have this part of the planet to yourselves and everything willl be perfect, just the way you like it.
Please go cry somewhere else. No one cares that your feelings were hurt by you being called the race you are. No other race is a monolith, but you don't see them crying about being called Black, Hispanic, etc.
Why do people on Bluesky have to use the word "fuck" so much when they disagree with someone or something. Isn't that what the people on X do?
And by the way, how does it feel to be perfect?
the fact that every left liberal sort of person on here has fully internalized the right wing appropriation of woke and is now saying “bring woke back” is crazy. america was not “woke” a year ago. none of this means anything!
When someone tells me I’m woke, I turn around and walk away because I’m not gonna argue with anyone who’s so stupid that they think being kind and caring about others is a bad thing
Ok, white Canadian here. I am proudly WOKE. I have empathy for others, and it breaks my heart and makes me rage when I see white supremacy asshats whining that POC are getting chosen for positions they think they should get because they are white. I DO call out rascism, bigotry as much as I can.
I didn't see a memo saying that I couldn't use it.
I DO understand not using the N word. It even bothers me when I hear black people saying it, but I understand why.
Just like I can call myself a dyke and the hets don't get to use that word.
I don't know, I'll have to field this to the group this year at WhiteCon, the secret convention for every single white person in America where we all decide how to move forward as one monolithic body without any dissenting ideas.
I'm not sure it's possible to use in it's original intent anymore. Ymmv but I haven't heard it used in that context (calling attention) in at least a decade
You don’t think it’s possible to use it to mean “a state of heightened awareness and political consciousness, particularly regarding racial justice and social inequality”? Why not?
I've always thought any offense was fucking stupid...because the literal opposite of woke is asleep! They are saying that they'd rather be ASLEEP than AWAKE?
No one screamed about it woke is a positive concept . Being asleep to what's going on is not a source of pride . I'll keep it as long as this war against the ignorant lasts thanks
I use it to say “hell yeah, I care about people, justice, and truth”, as a counter to the negative sentiment of maga pundits. I’m woke af. Why be embarrassed by that?
It's the use of the word you keep using. It's actually a form of appropriation in a way when a word meant for Black Americans to say vigilant becomes a word for white people to feel good about themselves. That's why it's cringy.
Didn't write that I thought I was a victim of racism and I'm not embarrassed or tired of the word woke. Generalizations about anything are cognitive distortions, a lack of critical thinking skills, which is a highlight of MAGA thinking, basis for isms. Fact: 50%+ of white people are proudly woke.
Woke was meant for Black Americans to "stay vigilant." It was never meant for white people to virtue signal how not racist and "good" of a person they are.
White people shouldn't be gentrifying Black vocabulary.
No, I'm not going to do your homework for you. If you want to know why, you have the internet at your fingertips. Stop asking others to do the work for you for free.
As a white person, I was legitimately tired of white people screaming about woke from the get go. It was co-opted, gentrified and flipped into this "nasty" idea without even understanding it. I knew the definition and haven't ever used the use as it was originally part of Black culture.
I legitimately have had verbal arguments. One ended in me calling someone a Nazi, telling him to own his racism and absolutely be better. I am so over these people I don't go out much because it'll be fistacuffs eventually
Unfortunately, it's only one syllable to deliberately misunderstand. Much more efficient hate output than having to know what acronyms like CRT & DEI stand for.
Woke acts as a code word to me that if it comes out of anyone’s mouth I walk tf away and waste no time on them. Same with “DTS” and “caravan”. Those words tell me who tf you are.
near as i can tell, it's still a popular epithet but has lost its punch. it's now a word peepaw uses when he can't find miracle whip on the kroger shelves ("damn woke governor probably banned it")
My theory is all the right wing red / blue pill enthusiasts were just P.O’d that they couldn’t use it in their paradigm…”I’m woke from the liberal Marxist matrix”.
One of my students made a film about the history of the word “woke.” After learning about the racial history of the term I am surprised that any white person would use the term (add to series: critical race theory, DEI).
I think this is one of the greatest annoyances. Someone made the mistake of using the word “woke” in front of the wrong white person and now it has been unable to follow the typical slang trajectory and die a timely death.
I’m WOKE AF and NO matter how others try to disparage the word it’s a description to be proud of. Like others said who thinks being ASLEEP is a compliment unless you are DUMB AF. #WokeAwakeRise&ShineAlertEyesWideOpenKissMyAssSandman
It's funny that the red pill is in reference to being awake to reality. People are waking up all over the country from the American dream to the American nightmare, and they have a problem with that. I grew up in segregated Milwaukee. My childhood was shaped by racists I've always seen the threat.
White Americans (& white people in general, but DEFINITELY white Americans) will shamelessly hold on to their words that are stand-in for the words they _really_ want to use.
Built on cowardice & appropriation, the (white) American way.
Dunno. Seems there's plenty of useless white guilt but never enough white shame. A lot of these folks are incapable of embarrassment - or true social & racial responsibility - without a very real Come to Brown Jesus moment.

Embarrassment causes shame.
Shame breeds fear in whites.
Fear manifests as anger.
Anger knows no shame.
New topic.
Rinse and repeat.
And by the way, how does it feel to be perfect?
If you're not woke, you're asleep.
Time to wake up, little sheep.
I DO understand not using the N word. It even bothers me when I hear black people saying it, but I understand why.
Just like I can call myself a dyke and the hets don't get to use that word.
????
groupthink is in full effect
As expressed in William Melvin Kelley’s essay in the NYT
Don’t bow to the fa/racist appropriation:

THIS is our problem. Those who are servants of the 1%, preventing any Rights for Anyone but themselves.
The words Centrist, Establishment, Middle, etc... are to hide they serve the Golden Goose.

You guys in the comments need to fucking stop. Just be normal fucking people.
As far I go, I'm embarrassed just being associated with them by virtue of sharing skin tone.
If that’s not the definition of classic definition of dumb with a double scoop of Stupid I don’t know WHAT “is”
Not only embarrassing, unapologetically ignorant
White people shouldn't be gentrifying Black vocabulary.
I'm also white and the next white person who says "woke" in my presence may well get slapped. It makes me nuts!
Said by a white guy who unironically calls people homies.
Being embarrassed isn't really something white folks do correctly..
Cuts down on figuring out if a person is normal or not
https://www.naacpldf.org/woke-black-bad/
So when will they stop?
When the reaper takes their last breath.
I've never used the term
I think woke and unalive are 2 words that should never be used.
Say dead
Screw the bots!😄
I don't think those white people will ever get bored or embarrassed by it.
Built on cowardice & appropriation, the (white) American way.
I could only hope to be woke.
I thought it was a Corruption thing that had to do with EVERYONE being screwed by the 1% in Both Parties.
Does that make me embarrassed and bored? No more than when MAGA attacks the term.
