The city council just voted down an amendment from CM Susan Paine that would have cut (not eliminated) minimum parking requirements.

Paine's amendment was supported by CM Chris Eck and no one else on the council.

CM Jenna Nand said that the required parking was needed to ensure people have a "middle class lifestyle" and CM Michelle Dotsch said developers won't pass on savings from less parking.

Same here. We lived in the bowl of Edmonds for a few years with less cars than this (back when they had a grocery) and the convenience was very nice. It already exists! I think they’d do better to build on this good amenity they have rather than trying to be, say, a Mill Creek.

For apartments over 1,200 square feet in size, required parking would have gone from 1.75 to 1.25 stalls per unit. For 800-1,200 sq ft units, it would have gone from 1.25 to 1. Still pretty high, but not high enough for the Edmonds Council.

you know these "Hubs" will be on Aurora, 76th, maybe Westgate, 5 corners, Perrinville and Firdale Village- absolutely NO "Hub" will be in the precious bowl. Woodway is sitting back relieved to be left out of the discussion.
