I tried for a minute at Thanksgiving. This woman was telling me how she would immediately feel safe going to Mexico after Trump was inaugurated. (We just had our daughter's wedding there.) I told her I felt perfectly safe there THIS year. She then told me Musk was a genius, and I excused myself.
I excused myself after informing her that I could never vote for a rapist, who is nominating rapists and pedophiles for his cabinet - because I know and care about women who have been victims of men like this. This women was not moved, and she has two daughters.

Good luck winning next election with this attitude..! I'm serious, take a look at what happened here in the UK. Doubling down on a loss only means you will lose worse the next time. The only way to win is to talk to those who voted for the other side, actually understand what might bring them back.
Many voted for Trump despite not caring either way about trans people. Not ideal, we'd both rather they did care, but that's reality. The only way to win (which will actually help trans people!) is to convince voters you care about them too.
Dems could convince these voters that Dems care by promising to deport all illegal immigrants from the country who are, as these prospective voters believe, and as Dems should say, poisoning the beautiful white blood of the country. Should Democrats do that, do you think? It'd be popular.

For the vast majority, they're experiencing a worse quality of life than 20 years ago, and want an answer. Reps say it's immigration. Dems need a convincing alternative story & solution.
Only 3% would need to think it to allow Dems to win those people over. Dems need to really think long and hard about the lessons of 2024: the people want far-right austerity and they want to harm minorities. There's no question Dems would do better electorally if they support these desires.
The problem with this at least in my case is that my 3 children ended in their camp through RFK. So at least for me, I just hope that with time many of them see that what we were telling them is true soon enough so we can minimize the threat of the incoming administration.
Unfortunately many of them don’t stop to watch what their movement is looking to do and what they actually do - don’t think they will see the truth until it arrives at their door
After I listed all the horrific things the felon has done and all his hateful plans for the future, I just kept asking my MIL how she could vote for him when she has children & grandchildren who will suffer? She said it was nice that we could disagree. Nope, haven’t spoken to her since.

My own maga mother said I was listening to “idiots and assholes” when I tried to explain tariffs to her. There’s no reaching them. It will hard to go forward without spending the next four years saying I told you so.
Trust me I think there are a lot of MAGA idiots out there but not everyone who voted for him is one. Dialogue is always important even when you don’t agree. If it’s possible to make even a few people alter their outlook it’s worth it because he won by a very small percentage.
I hear what you’re saying, I really do. Yet, if rape and racism isn’t a hard-line for these people, then the thought of wasting ANY of my energy on them seems nauseating.
