I'll be honest, the ceremony of organized religion and church has never appealed to me, but with the way they get to influence the world in the worst ways without having to pay any taxes, they absolutely should have to.
No, for once you are not right😂
Let them attend Sunday School
Let them be baptised
Let them know that there's one true God
It will do them a lot of good as they mature in life
God is the stabilizer in any human being
Because the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom
Those that do not fear God do despicable things in the name of God just to soil God's name
Forcing children into partaking in religious rights should be illegal. There should be a law that states that only people 18 or over can choose to partake in religious services.
Carl Sagan: "We have arranged a global civilization whose most important parts rely deeply on science and technology. We have also arranged society so that almost no one understands science and technology. This is a recipe for disaster.” This is what we wittness now.
IMO so is the recitation of the pledge by school kids who have no idea what the words they are saying mean. I stopped saying it young and taught my kids to say it only after we went over what it meant and if they choose to say it.
You don’t have to have the first three listed to have faith in God and you can still have faith in God and believe in Science, common sense and critical thinking.
A whisper from the past
Children should be kept from all kinds of instruction that may make errors possible, until their sixteenth year that is to say from philosophy, religion, and general views of all sorts.

Yours to ponder on.
It’s like —- people can tell you more about hell and evil than they can about heaven, kindness, and love. They will celebrate evil deeds before they celebrate intelligence. It’s upside down.
They are NOT mutually exclusive. Doctors, lawyers, scientists, etc can have a spiritual connection (i.e. church) and still be all those qualities you list on the bottom 3. You are being biased and unfair.
1 should be love and 2 should be respect. Religious or atheist that will always be true of you want to raise them right. And too many of both treat kids like they’re not real people.
The only reason people are Christian (or Muslim or Hindu, etc.) is because they were born in a time and place where these myths are taught. If you were born in ancient Greece, you'd be following Zeus. You can have (and teach) spirituality without religion.
Nah, I've still not completed the 3 prerequisites:
1. Find someone interesting enough to want to have kids with,
2. Develop an interest in conceiving kids into this dying world at all,
3. Develop an interest in sexual practices that will actually lead to conception.
Why not all? And have a well-rounded child to make up his or her mind. To chose what to believe based on knowledge. Would that be so bad? With proper unbiased or forced indoctrination, to explore life at its fullest. I have been blessed to experience all, to be at peace with all.
Kids thrive with curiosity, kindness, and the tools to question and grow. Teaching science, critical thinking, and empathy builds a foundation for them to navigate the world thoughtfully. Let’s guide them with love and open-mindedness, fostering their unique potential. 🌟 #ParentingWithPurpose
Children can go to Sunday School and also learn about science and common sense. These are not opposites, and I am very sad that some religious leaders have made people think that they are.
FTR I have had all those things. Sunday school didn't hurt. I learned that the bible is fiction. Baptism was just a bath. No harm, but silly in retrospect. Threats of hell used to scare me but make me laugh now.
Science? Common sense? Critical Thinking? I enjoy those and recommend them.
Religious indoctrination forced upon those who cannot make a choice ie children is wrong.
Religion in particular, Christian based religion, has killed tens or millions of people through forced conversion and wars. It is a religion that teaches authoritarianism and fascism at its core.
Baptism for a child is forcing religion on them. However, it's a grave mistake to omit spiritual education. Our country is extremely bigoted and uneducated on spiritual matters. We now have scientific studies proving the efficacy of meditation, which is an enormous blessing to all.
This cannot be a blanket statement Mayra, being catholic we do need Baptism and Confirmation, and to educate our children with the knowledge they will go their own way one day and no matter, love is unconditional, America is about freedoms, choose our beliefs, ok, off my soapbox lol.
For sure, nobody needs threats of hell. And for sure, everybody needs science, common sense, and critical thinking. But I'd ask you to consider that kids whose culture - including religion - is not the mainstream, *do* need participation and education in that part of their identity and history.
Science, common sense, critical thinking, logic, civics and humanities, all good things that they need more of. Some of the ignorance is truly astounding. From a very lapsed Catholic.
I am ALSO a very lapsed Catholic and agree. When in the WORLD did we backtrack to the dark ages?? My 1980s catholic school didn’t NOT TEACH SCIENCE or civics or history. Is this the “history doomed to repeat itself” part?
I believe in science, medicine, doctors, research, atoms, quantum physics, biology, chemistry, anatomy - the physical. I believe in the metaphysical too. The spiritual things I cant see but experience - that science cant prove but need faith. God & science do more to compliment each other than not.
I also participate in what you call organized religion. Religion, IMO is used sometimes like a “dirty word”. Faith & religion are def NOT the same. I think of religion as the “collective heritage” of a particular “faith” - both good & bad. Learn from the “bad” and do more of the good. #notapharisee
Even as a kid, I knew church was nothing more than one big guilt trip. I never walked out of a service feeling uplifted, only ashamed.
*my experience, your mileage may vary*
God created the science many non-believers lean on. Common sense & critical thinking are encouraged in many Bible passages. Some believers (regrettably) have not done a suitable job of modeling their faith. But many have. Admitting we all need help is Step 1; that's what seems to trip up most folks.
Do you understand that bible is a book written and re-written by people? It was changed many times and it contradicts itself so many times that it is impossible to count.
Faith has nothing to do with bible or any other script
People talk about bible but do not know much about its orgins
Its origin is in its first verse. If you reject that, we will obviously disagree. That’s okay. Like your bio, I am also pro-Ukrainian, pro-science, & pro-democracy. Let’s go with that!
You are right, we might disagree on some subjects but at the same time you have reminded me that I do believe in a freedom to worship as people wish and to respect them and their choices.
I am currently reading a book that does trigger a lot of questions and it is still very fresh on my mind.
I get the premise behind this, but respectfully disagree Mayra. I encouraged my kids to experience 5/6 on here (no way on first #3) Getting baptized and attending church never interfered with them learning about the bottom three. Proud to call them mine; they’re really good humans.
I personally say that they can listen to religion, but they also need to listen to science, and they can make up their own minds. In my mind, science is pretty definitive while religion tends to be fluid and sometimes self contradictory, but that doesn't mean there isn't value in it.
Well said. While we modeled our faith actions and as kids they went with us, I fully respect their decisions to embrace whatever they felt was right for them as adults. Following ours…or not. Learning about it all and then making well informed decisions is what critical thinking is about, isn’t it?
Yup. Neither side wins if we simply tell our children that the others are making stuff up and you shouldn't listen. The truth reveals itself if you just keep an open mind.
I was exposed to both, Sunday school and public grade school through high and I think the comparison made it clear and easy for me to choose science and reality over what I perceived as manipulative fiction and a cruelty that I found illogical and baffling.
I’m not into organized religion but once a preacher came to my door and gave me a little sermon. I listened respectfully and he left. My 3 year old then turned to me and said”who’s Jesus?” So all my kid’s went to vacation bible school every year.
I focused on the bottom three with my daughter, and she grew up to be an empathetic, intellectual atheist who decided her spiritual path and is good because she wants to be, not because she has to appease some imaginary deity created by patriarchal elites.
Unfortunately, there are too many parents who want to put their children in a bubble, sheltering them from the world, and they become ignorant. I encouraged my daughter to be intellectually curious, read whatever she wanted, never fear asking questions, and get to know all types of people.
Great approach👍 I never agreed with teaching using negative reinforcement or threats.
I see you are Jersey. Seen any drones? I'm in SJ/Burlington county- I haven't seen anything (except a plane going to Phila Intrntl😆); ppl I know have seen them though 😲
I’m in SJ/Camden County. I haven’t seen any drones, but I have talked with a few who said they have.
I like to stir the conspiracy pot by telling people that NJ is a sanctuary state and Trump is doing deportation recon before Jan 20. It’s sad that several believed me. 🤯
Sunday school makes me kind of uncomfortable. Should kids be learning this stuff? Is this kids stuff? Can kids understand this stuff? Generally adults don’t even… The answer to all of them is no. So it comes down to brainwashing kids.
Religion is antithetical to critical thinking. When you raise children to accept extraordinary claims without testable evidence, they grow up to be dangerously credulous and gullible adults -- the sort of people who will reject vaccines and vilify trans people just because a con man told them to.
But people who feel they need religion too can deliver through Sunday School, Church, catechism, home, private Christian school…no need to force other beliefs into it and to pay for it during public school.

Being proactive, setting your boundaries and respect.

2. Develop an interest in conceiving kids into this dying world at all,

Bad. Bad. Bad

Can we offer the Jersey Shore & 'Real' Housewives casts as substitutes?
I grew up in Clementon & lived in Somerdale & Voorhees before moving to Mt Laurel. Nice to see someone local here 🙂
