Remember back when the hurricane hit Puerto Rico while Trumptard was in office??? He delayed aid to them for months and it was only a third of what they needed. I pray everytime a hurricane hits Florida that it levels Mar-A-Lago. It skips the entire state, just Hits Mar-A-Lago. 😜😜😆😆
My son was stationed in PR 4 yrs. Loved the island. I visited every chance I could get first being 2005. Aguadilla. The power went out EVERY DAY - for hours..this is not new but is exacerbated by Maria. We have done NOTHING for decades. We are so negligent and dismissive of this place, these people.
A signal for Canada, Mexico, and Panama.
This is a perfect example of how the US treats its territories. I'm sure they'll receive paper towels for disaster relief.
And the nightmare is coming back the 20th. The man sho didn’t lift a finger for Puerto Rico after the devastating hurricane except throw a few pkg’s of paper towel.
It has been an issue for as long as I can remember.
Luma Energy, the private energy company primarily supplying power to the island is particularly egregious.
Yet they seem to have power for Luis Fonsi’s performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve - how many people are without power for necessary medical support???
Love Puerto Rico! I did notice while I was there that they really have not taken advantage of all the sun and wind they get when it comes to electricity production. That should happen. NOW! :)
Is this an opportunity for some solar power and led lighting company to go down there and go crazy? The publicity alone would be worth a lot. You all know that the Republican’ts won’t do diddly. Who will?
Before Trump goes off annexing Sovereign Nation States, how about Trump makes All current districts and territories of The USA have State status. For the Representation without Taxation thing.
I have been to Puerto Rico many times for work and for vacations. I found the island to be beautiful and the people friendly and helpful. I wish them well and hope the blackout is over soon.
I work in power engineering. This is likely the consequence of simply not having enough generation to support the demand. This happens a hundred times a day in other nations *except* the USA. That PR has to deal with this is unacceptable, IMO.
The entire US electric power system, everywhere, can manage with the "outage of an underground electrical cable." We have standards for *exactly* this, and so does the Island of Puerto Rico. So I'm baffled why this occurred...
It’s because the general power systems we use are outdated and lately, really common to break due to poor maintenance. The solution would be to change the whole system to something more modern but nobody has the patience or is willing to take the risk. Also everyones been going the solar power route
In Costa Rica, in May we almost got rolling blackouts because our hydroplants ran dry.
As electric generation is mostly State-owned, it was criticized because its poor planning.
But the rainy season came, so it didn't happen. Still, we have the advantage that we're interconnected to Central America.
And yet when the New Year's televised celebration cut to Puerto rico, they made sure that the venue was fully lit. It's all about optics I guess. Screw the people that live there
I Really Like Puerto Rican People.

Don’t normalize it. You are right it is always happening but it deserves attention. So many young people left after the hurricane Maria devastated the entire island, that there are now many older people making the sacrifice. The oligarchs are salivating, waiting to buy waterfront at cheap prices.
I lived there during the 2020 earthquakes and lost power for 3 days. Luckily, my neighbor had a camp stove ready to go and had me over for dinner one of the nights. That's just something they regularly go through.
Fema never delivered the help to fix the electrical grid, the old electrical grid owners PREPA went bankrupt, they had to hire a new private electrical grid repair company LUMA , they are crap, they underestimated the complexity of the task,
Puerto Rican politicians are a bunch of corrupt Trumpers.
And that they are. Jenniffer González-Colón, a representative for the island in Congress is a big trumper, politicians of Puerto rico in power at the moment are for trump and
state hood.
Puerto Rico's prostatehood politicians are corrupt and incompetent. Case in point incoming governor Jennifer Gonzalez wants to power Puerto Rico on natural gas When as you can see there are no ships capable of going to Puerto Rico that can carry natural gas
They can give a rat's ass about the Puerto Rican people, meanwhile, they live in their mansions on the island, while the average Puerto Rican lives in poverty.
Puerto Ricans people on the island cannot vote for the president, their politicians are corrupt and they are in favor of Trump, Jenniffer González-Colón, a representative for the island in Congres is a big trumper.
Puerto Ricans in the states overwhelmingly voted for trump.
They have tried, they brainwash the Puerto Rico people telling them that Puerto Rico can't be independent, and so they keep voting these corrupt politicians in, they want Puerto Rico to become a state, so the rich can take over the island build hotels casinos and gulf clubs Rich richer poor poorer
While Puerto Ricans on the island cannot vote for the president of the united states, the new governor, Jenniffer González-Colón, a representative for the island in Congress, is a Trump supporter and has been pushing for statehood.🧵
The majority of Puerto Ricans here in the United States voted for trump,
They believed trump lies, because of their misogynistic views and
And the so-called Christians views on abortion.
Guessing Dumpster Drumpf’s only reply will be to toss paper towels at the Puerto Rico American Citizens adversely affected!
Maybe Moldy MAGA Musk will erect some solar arrays and install some solar powered electric service to our fellow Americans when he’s not too busy imitating himself on Twitter.
I am currently in Puerto Rico right now visiting family. Thankfully, my father’s house has solar power, so we still have power, but either way, a power cut does not stop us from celebrating. We are very prepared, and we can improvise too. ;)
Tell all the "Puerto Rican's for Thrump" to send charged batteries to their family. 🤷🏻♂️ Trump screwed the ppl of Puerto Rico w/ a no bid contractor/donor buddy.
CBS News reported in 2017"Whitefish is backed by HBC Investments. The firm's founder Joe Colonnetta gave $33,000 to then TX Gov. Rick Perry, who is now Energy Sec. Colonnetta gave $28,200 to Pres.Trump. Whitefish CEO Andy Techmanski knows Interior Sec R Zinke. Whitefish is based in Zinke's hometown."
It’s no wonder. When I was there a couple years ago, the polls and all of the wires looked like a tangled ball of yarn. If they are in fact, part of the United States, we need to take better care of them. We clearly have the money.
My parents are there and luckily they invested in a generator a few years back. PR needs to hold the energy companies accountable or this will go on forever.
Dump seeking to make Canada the 51 states what about D.C. and Puerto Rico in that slot...oh there black "unincorporated territories" who pay taxes to Washington Congress...pimps.
It doesn’t even matter what the population wants, they could vote 100% on either option and it would still be up to the whims of Congress
I doubt statehood is an options because that would likely weaken the GOP due to the population of the state providing a non insignificant number of reps that…
Would likely be dem based on how Latinos as a whole vote but independence is also not an option for DC because the idiots there would sever their own limbs without anesthetic before willfully giving away US land
Although working class hispanics swung towards Republicans in the past two presidential election cycles, hopefully that should be enough for Republicans to finally grant PR statehood.
I would love for PR to be fully independent but either way would be better than what currently exists
After what happened on twitter saying we should allow skilled workers I’m not sure the GOP would let any territory become a state where the people don’t look like they’re from Amsterdam

I can't believe that!
We should be ashamed!

"Luma Energy, a private company that oversees electricity transmission and distribution."
I guarantee there are some unexplainably wealthy utility regulators in PR.

Rs, Ds, and local government all to blame.

Get back to me when Trump allocates money there.
Why would I wait on Trump when he said he doesn’t care but dems say they do care but actions prove otherwise
Other than having an extra house seat and potential 2 senators (which as a very Catholic conservative country I question)
I cannot think of a reason as to why Dems want to have them as a state
Puerto Rico can’t catch a break.

state hood.
I, personally am done feeling sorry for people who touch the hot stove when told numerous times not to.
As my parents always told me:

PR continues to depend on generators provided by FEMA. In Nov, PR govt asked to keep using 12 portable generators for 2 addl yrs
Meanwhile, PR Electric Pwr Auth struggles to restructure $9B+ in debt
60% power comes from petrol fueled plants; the island has a poverty rate over 40%
