If you have zero education, but learn how to ask AI models the right questions , in many jobs you will be able to outperform someone with an advanced degree, but who is unwilling to use Large Language Models.

Just takes a smartphone, curiosity to experiment and a mindset to learn.

It's not just that you're not some tech genius about LLMs. What @mcuban.bsky.social is professing here is an abject misunderstanding of what they fundamentally are and what they do and don't do. They don't do true or false. Not just that they're unreliable at it. That's not what they do, period.

But many jobs are not oriented to true or false outcomes. Digital roduct design, corporate strategy, marketing, etc. are mostly ingesting and synthesizing a bunch of information and generating a subjective/consensus output. I have one of these jobs and we reckon a good LLM could do 70% of it today.

I don't think acknowledging that should get me fired lol. I might be and hope I'm wrong; but I'd like to err on the side of tech taking my job as these things get a bigger foothold in the corporate space so I can adapt accordingly.

LLMs can boost some types of productivity, that's not what Mark is saying. He's claiming somebody spitballing questions at an LLM can learn about a field better than by actual education, and that's nonsense. Your example is not "somebody off the street with ChatGPT could do a better job than me."

Word. I gave it a more charitable reading in that I have an advanced degree (sort of, it's an MBA) but apply almost none of what I learned in my day-to-day job; so it seems plausible someone could use an LLM to create content similar to mine, receive feedback on that content from my bosses

And iterate the prompt a few times until the prior was as good as what I, an educated subject matter expert could provide.

I don't think they have zero use, but *learning* from them like some kind of tutor is the absolute last thing you should be doing. I've asked it, just to test it, about things I know fairly well. Explain this doctrine, or how did this thinker influence that one, etc. It is terrible at such things.

If what you want is a basic layman's terms intro to some concept, don't ask a damned LLM. Go read the wikipedia article about it. Best case, that's most of what the LLM is mangling and regurgitating at you anyway.

I am glad to have grown up with dictionaries, encyclopedias, library reference sections, and learning research skills in school. Uncritical online searching, search poisoned by ads, now AI, is making easy things hard.
