To cap off these upgrades(-ish), that Aliexpress order ALSO had one last item I've meant to order for a good long while: a drop-in IPS screen for my Sakura Taisen GBC, which I got so I could keep the cherry blossom lens and not have to trim the shell. Pretty easy and now it can live its best life. 😌

Anyway, while I'll definitely be playing plenty of the Sakura Taisen GB games on this thing, what I'M really looking forward to is more Tokimemo Pocket runs. So, expect yet more gushing over those games' sublime pixel art soon enough. It's the biggest reason I bought this screen and I'm psyched! 😌

For anyone with a similarly rarer GBC interested in a safe, reversible way to upgrade their screen, this is what I bought. Comes from a known seller, super simple to install even with no experience and no soldering required. And if you don't have a unique lens like mine, they include a replacement.

Nice, bookmarking that because it looks great. I slightly botched a case swap on my own GBC (I was trying to pick the backing foam off the screen) - the OG screen now has a flaky connection and, I'll be honest, I would probably play it more if I didn't need to be under the sun to see it.

Yeah, removing the original in any of these handhelds can always be a little harrowing and mine gave me grief, too. I had a motherboard screw strip out on me this time (not the first time with a Nintendo handheld) that took creativity to get out, too. Always an adventure with these builds, ahaha.

But yeah, while there are higher end screens out there (there are even OLED replacements for sale, wildly enough), this has as much functionality as other screens that *did* require soldering work for me to install, so between that and the still sharp visual quality, I reckon it's hard to beat. 😌
