What if fixing climate doesn't mean doing everything the same way, except with less CO₂ emissions, but fundamentally changing the way we interact with nature and with other people?

To me, voting at the ballot box is the same as voting with your wallet. Your individual vote is insignificant in isolation, but incredibly meaningful when combined into an aggregate. It's why so many scientists, like @davidho.bsky.social, advocate for better individual choices, like reducing meat.
Are consumers ready to change? Knowing that transport is a fairly major cause, are people choosing to buy large or small cars? Are people choosing to reduce energy use where they have agency?
Consumers often react to the choices offered by companies & regulations - you can see this with significant EV growth in many markets (e.g. China & certain municipalities in N America) - and this has to be combined with infrastructure
I can only speak for European pricing, most car manufacturers produce a car and an suv of the same size, the suv will be more expensive to buy and run yet offer very little benefit. How often will the buyer pick the more powerful engine, yet still be stuck in the same traffic jam.
Selection effects for different car types (and ownership of a car) have some odd incentives, and fleet renewal is quite slow (c. 15 years, without incentives)
Yep - the pricing structure of these things, e.g. going "eco" often involves a significant initial capital spend, often skews choices - especially for people from different socioeconomic groupings & their pre-existing sunk costs + access to capital
I am struck by the parochial views aired in this thread.
With the exception of the US the gift of net zero, or near net zero, lies with the Chinese and Indian working class. The chances of getting them to forego the promise of a Western lifestyle is non existent.
It's funny cause in some areas, tree planting was done hastily and as a result we've just got rows of invasive trees sat there in many places that will need cut down if we truly do care about the environment.
Predators too. They need rewilded, or at least deer pop should be cut down.
You mean like transforming your suburb into a walkable hood with safe bike and roll routes and great public transit? Buying beer being a pleasant stroll? Crazy talk!

Even if I fall asleep and leave my pc on overnight, I still could never hope to match a bitcoin miner's power usage.
