Öbb, the Austrian Federal Railways, is ridiculous. I bought a refundable train ticket but made a mistake on the date. When I tried to cancel it, I was told that because I downloaded the ticket as a PDF, I could no longer cancel it. There goes $600. I should have bought a plane ticket. 🤬

International train travel in Europe needs lots of improvement. I noticed it's only possible to book a sleeper train by phone..

It seems to be purely luck though. With that price point you should try it.
If you want to play hardball, just ask your bank to return the money.
Or maybe ÖBB could change the dates.
And let's be honest, no one has the time to read every bit of legalese that crosses their screens every day. It's not feasible

The thing with these rules are that you could probably fight them and win in court, but the effort to do so is in no proportion to the damage. That's what they count on.
Opening a PDF doesn't mean that you started to use their services.
Also, I was not informed of it. It might have been in the fine print but I wasn't looking for it..
I would try reject payment at the CC level if possible and see.
