I had measles in the mid 1950's. My fever went so high that I had vivid hallucinations that I still remember. My parents must have been terrified as I talked about what I was seeing. Five years later I also likely would have died of scarlet fever without penicillin.. modern medicine saves lives.

My aunt and uncle both had scarlet fever as toddlers before antibiotics. It took my ain’t almost 3 years to recover and my uncle had permanent heart damage to deal with the rest of his life, and that’s what ultimately killed him
