400$ I could deal with for Switch 2, much as that is. I’ve had faith in Nintendo’s quality record for games even on the bad end.
660$? I’d rather spend that on getting a nicer Steam deck for more value, my full steam library plus emulators AND mods I don’t worry about being banned for.
My 2¢ net from memes: I would not buy it first day, there's sure a whole load of bugs and issues. I also read of uncertain compatibility with previous titles. Also to me they're trying to charge way too much for games. It's a big NOPE so far.
Are you kidding me? That shooter hit his target directly. He wasn't trying to kill Trump, just make it look like he was trying to kill Trump. That's why they shot him and didn't arrest him.
You may not be into politics but it sure as Hades into you as it is the background determiner of how you will live your life.
As politics is the creator of laws by people that are into politics.
One thing Brexit made clear to me, is most people have no idea how international trade works. Or how integrated it is into a modern economy. Guess it's time for the U.S to learn the hard way as well😐
And let's not ignore how the price point of every console and tech product in the works will have to factor in tariffs that could affect the individual parts (Chips, etc.) they use.
1. My switch has drift, and who knows how the controller market is going to go.
2. Many people were desperately waiting for a switch 2 in order to play their switch 1 games at a good frame rate.
And yeah, we're all going to have to get comfortable with not buying things due to these tariffs.
Given the low profit margins in some of these industries, at what point does the US government earn more from tariffing the product in question than the company that actually makes it?
Idk when we, as a society, convinced ourselves that politics was something that somehow didn't envelope all spheres of life, but that was a bad call in hindsight.
It’s a right wing deflection tactic that’s it.. it’s used by ‘libertarians’ and ‘centralists’ to pretend that what you’re talking about is irrelevant because they lack an argument to present. It’s so they can pretend to be neutral when they support a counter argument to yours
I’ve gotten into soooooo many arguments because people refuse to believe that everything is inherently political. “How are video games political?”
Well considering they manufactured by a corporation. That makes it political inherently
I grew up reading the WaPo as a kid following Senator Biden rail about violence in Videogames.
The industry came together because you sure as shit don't want the government to make up a solution. ESRB was born. People minimized the fuss on graphic content in games.
It started when the Civil Rights Movement became a major national political issue and a whole LOT of white people started saying "We don't talk about politics" in their social group so they wouldn't keep getting into arguments with integrationists.
Privilege. There are some who have had the “benefit of doubt” because social policies “only affected *other* people”. Now the policies they voted for, directly or indirectly, are affecting them now too. #ThenTheyCameFor
The anti-woke crowd is in for a reckoning. Because now it's their side's politics that is ruining their hobby, which was never just theirs to begin with.
thats some rough math based on the tariffs for goods from China and Vietnam, where switches are assembled, the extra fees for the parts from those countries will amount to a hefty 40-ish percent tariff
which is to say, it isnt an official price update (yet) but supposing nothing changes, tariffs will tack on hundreds of dollars to the switch 2 because they will pass that on to consumers.
Thank you! Really should've put together this was related to the tariffs, especially since they delayed preorders in the states. Appreciate you spelling it out a bit for me haha 👍
Yeaaah, I suspect the delay is because theyre waiting to see if the tariffs go into effect or someone manages to talk them down because if not..well..Nintendo cant exactly eat hundreds of dollars of tariffs and still make money so they'd have to raise prices
Im also disappointed, Dont blame Nintendo for the og 450 dollar price (since it has a built in microphone, better graphics, etc, and also possible mouse support too hopefully)
Blame it on Trump's STUPID tariffs, I can't believe gaming got affected by Politics.
I literally JUST posted a comment about extremely "fanboys in the 90s vs those same girls in 2020" games on a reddit thread you cannot be doing me like this twice in a row
Our fascist ex-president, Bolsonaro, in his time, lowered the tax on games and game related tech. Given how right leaning the nerd and gaming communities usually are, count on Trump eventually doing it as he would cut taxes on gasoline.
I'm more of a gamer myself and even I went out to vote Blue all across the ballot because I saw this coming. I hope this gets those gamers attention that voted for him, those who didn't bother to vote, and those who voted for a third party candidate. They got no one to blame for this but themselves.
What's extra funny is these people were mad when guilty gear removed references of Taiwan being a country. Demanding they add back in the political conflict between the PRC and ROC
That morons that cry that politics don't belong in videogames, because they got offended by a black/LGBT character, then making entire "Anti-Woke" Groups just to make it political.
For a brief moment I thought, 'If it gets the 'culture war' grifters out of gaming then that's a good thing.' But obviously it's not just the grifters the price has gone up for.
I doubt it's just taxes, since the VAT in Germany is 19% and Finland's is 25,5%. But it is true that electronics in general are expensive as hell in Finland
I hate to say it, but this one isn’t all Trump, Nintendo is trying to get as much as they can for this. Iirc the tariffs only affected release date that we know so far
This is the reason the preorder was suspended. raise the price due to the tariffs. In Japan you can get it 350. the games were quoted between 80-90 dollars. They will probably go up to 150+now. A good example of what tariffs will look like. Trump has just lost an entire age group of young men
Spot on. But this same person will be susceptible to the claim that "Dems did that to you." and believe it, simply because the only messages he will see will be coming from the right.
My son was on the release stream for the Switch 2. Super excited even though he was little nervous about the price of the console and games. Pre-tariffs. Your meme is spot on. All the gamers who voted for Trump didn’t vote for this.
All the gamers who voted for Trump did so out of a whiny tantrum over black people and women being in video games and media such as star wars. Now they're upset they're isolationist nationalist racist loser they voted for is doing exactly what he said he would
Nope but he’s my insider into the whole video game world. As he said, “dad you have no idea how passionate the community is.”
If you tick off these folks they will go scorched earth. Video games are hundreds of billions of dollars.
This isn't a first term presidency. He was a known quantity- we knew he picked petty trade wars. He also has no checks anymore- no reelection to plan for, and a very well kowtowed party, so it was known he'd go harder. He wasn't subtle either.
We don’t understand how closed off the right wing information ecosystem is. So many folks get their info from Joe Rogan or Tik tok. I read recently where they experimented to see how quickly toxic masculinity Tik tok videos showed up for people in the “bro” sphere. It was instant & overpowering.

but politics will ABSOLUTELY fuck with you.

Gaming is political.
Their kids kept the rule without knowing why.
I heard my family complain about how the shift from "Mr. Potatohead" to "Potatohead" brand was 'woke'
They are all over 40, no kids, and have no seen this toy in 20+ years
Blame it on Trump's STUPID tariffs, I can't believe gaming got affected by Politics.
Pay attention.
Everything is politic

Yeah real nice. Mindless idiot just following sheep then.
*Peter immediately starts blasting him apart*
Oof ow my bones.
Maybe Finland is not getting the EU distribution route, but instead going through the north to get the US/Alaska to Canada route.
So it would have been inside of a shipment crate that was subject to tariff.
#VoteBetter
Old enough to vote & loved Kamala I have to add. He’s not in the demo I’m talking about
lol.
If you tick off these folks they will go scorched earth. Video games are hundreds of billions of dollars.
I was referring to your "All the gamers who voted for Trump didn’t vote for this."
They did. Did they probably want it? No. They did vote for it, however.
This isn't a first term presidency. He was a known quantity- we knew he picked petty trade wars. He also has no checks anymore- no reelection to plan for, and a very well kowtowed party, so it was known he'd go harder. He wasn't subtle either.
They voted for this.
Only they never bothered to figure out what those were, and ask "if they were so great, why didn't every republican president before this do them?"
