YouTuber Mark Rober published a video that demonstrates the difference between Tesla’s camera-only Autopilot system and a vehicle equipped with Lidar. But eagle-eyed viewers noticed that Autopilot turns off moments before the impact.

Not to defend Tesla here (cause screw them) but if hitting the break disables autopilot it seems like that could explain probably most (maybe all?) of those reports, including the one from Mark's video where he says he hit the breaks at the end.
Honestly, Telsa’s collision avoidance system was even sketchy when they had ultrasonic sensors like other cars. An auto-parking Model 3, in an indoor parking lot, almost plowed over a child during a test drive I was on. My wife was quick enough to the kid out of the way.
A good lawyer will be able to turn that back around and be able to (rightfully) blame tesla, because if the computer shuts off one system to apply another, it may as well just keep the first one going (from a liability standpoint)
If you watch the video to the end, it says that Tesla actually counts any crash that happens less than five seconds after autopilot disconnection as an 'autopilot crash'. There's enough to hate about them already without having to make stuff up.
Good for him, you couldn't risk the Tesla looking good. The ends clearly justify the means in Mark Rober's video. By showing the full thing, he's making it clear that he's an ally of the trans community and against Elon. Thank you Mark Rober!

Come on The Verge, do your research. Telsa FSD and Autopilot mode are designed intentionally to turn off at the moment of impact to shrug responsibility to the driver. Mark Rober is right in this video.

Probably Elon Musk pushed the cheaper camera-only version himself.
Technically this is exactly what you should expect if you do not use a Lidar, time-of-flight camera or any other real 3D sensor.
