QR is always worth hearing & this was excellent.

My family ask ‘was that an accident or a not-careful-enough’? I didn’t check, I was hasty, I tried to carry too much: we can learn better from these.

It unexpectedly broke, it wasn’t made right, it didn’t behave as per spec: these can be regulated.

1/ It is desperate: almost taken off the bike by a builder turning a corner to the canal at fish island with a plank on his shoulder the other day. Also had a meltdown in the TfL overground with people sitting on the collapsible seating as bikers desperately try and keep their bikes upright.

2/ all backed up with a 'you've no sense of humour/health and safety' madness mentality which does nothing to tackle a real problem of risk adverse, spurious legalism amongst commercial 'we might get sued/no walking on the grass' actors. I am screaming.

Excellent episode. I was surprised to hear RoSPA describe HSE as the country's only health and safety regulator. I'm a local authority EHO and this is my job. GB LAs enforce health and safety in 2/3 workplaces and 1/2 total GB workforce.

Another really interesting episode, diolch yn fawr.

I slipped on the stairs a couple of months ago, threw my hand out to catch the bannister (how modern!)… and punched it instead.

This is the oblique fracture of my fifth metacarpal that got me out chores for a month 😆

Great episode. I feel it is remarkable that a significant chunk of people have decided to complain constantly about health and safety as some sort of inconvenience aimed at them and not beneficial that they are not dieing and getting injured. But some still want to argue that it achieved nothing.

There are a group of people obsessed with the idea that more people worked in construction / heavy industry in the 1970s and any decline in accident numbers is down to this. They are wrong on both counts though - the population has grown and the number of construction workers has.
