The ball has x/y axes just like a joystick (VERY small travel), and you could lift it or press down to get z. Function buttons presumably to do things like change scale.
You can still get a modern equivalent, they’re essential for 3D CAD. The ball has 3 axes of rotation to spin a design object to any orientation. It also has 3 planes of movement so you can move/zoom the object wherever you want.
Dear kind-hearted person, with your permission, can you visit my page and participate or donate to save my children and help them? I will be very grateful to you. Sorry for the inconvenience.🥺💔🇵🇸
Man that was good times. Funny story, I met my step dad in there. He was my “wingman” and mom said she wanted to talk to the grown ass man taking to her 13 year old son online. They hit it off.
Ha that’s cool. We were in a pilot neighborhood for roadrunner cable modems. It was a blast smoking all the dial-ups especially with a controller that had 3 axes.
Ah man Descent what a game. That level end (i think it was level 6 or 7) with the cloaked boss in the big round room of lava is a core memory of mine. You'd hear the ticking noise of the boss when it was cloaked.
I remember. HP did great things in computer graphics in the 90s. I wrote a lot of code for HP UNIX graphics workstations. Their performance exceeded PCs by 1000 times or more. But eventually PC graphics caught up, and the hideous X11 motif (Unix attempt at windows) was the final nail in the coffin.

And only a few years later, cell phones were coming out with gigabyte-level storage
Time flies.
