I hope this isn't being prompted by the practice of replacing the trailers with 20 minutes of traditional commercials before the movie. there are a couple theaters in FL (that I know of) that have inexplicably done this

I know, it's crazy. I actually spoke to a manager at another theater in the same company (CMX, formerly Cobb) a while back and he seemed flummoxed too. and I heard secondhand that a Regal in FL was doing it as well. my assumption is it's managers going rogue for an unknown purpose

I don’t know how they could though. The last theater I worked at, the projector company could at least see what we were programming for trailers and often times the DCPs for major studio titles would even come with certain trailers attached. For a Regal to try to go around that is wild.

the Regal I can't confirm it happened firsthand but I experienced it at a Cobb a little over a year ago and it was like sustaining psychic damage, true torture

I've gotten used to just showing up 10-15min after the listed start time. I'd love if they at least officially marked when the film ends (not including credits). As someone who often does double or triple features, its tedious to precisely time it all out.

I prefer theaters that won’t admit anyone after the listed start time. I don’t want a consistent meandering crowd coming in after the trailers have started

when I worked at a movie theater I would always tell people that they have 10-15 minutes past "start time" before the movie actually starts lol, generally accurate - but idk nowadays, not gone in years

yeah even for independent theaters there's a buffer time. especially when the projectionists are also people who are polite and wait until they get most ticket holders in before starting the show! this ain't ever gonna happen.
