The front page of the New York Times, July 31, 1965, showing LBJ signing the Medicare and Medicaid Act of 1965 into law in the presence of Harry Truman.

Fighting battles that are long gone is the fools game, we now in the here now, that is the part they have forgotten, and we have went into the 5D,which means we have the power, if we focus our access, they think they rule little do they know the powers they are against are ties that bind us together
It took 20 years -- these 2 programs were the brainchild of Truman.
Giving millions of senior citizens healthcare, extending their lives to enjoy their retirement.
And providing healthcare for millions of citizens who were less fortunate and couldn't afford healthcare.
As an outside observer , and the Vietnam mistakes aside, LBJ did some good work for the poor and minorities, which seems to get forgotten/over shadowed in the afterglow of John Kennedy's Presidency.
💙💚💛🧡❤️💜 Please share: ECONOMIC BLACKOUT begins Friday, Feb 28. Eat food from your own kitchen. Don't spend money at Walmart, McDonald's, Target, Amazon, etc. Don't gas up your car. If you must buy something, support your small local businesses. Stop giving your money to billionaires!
None of this stuff means jack shit there is no law. Everything even if it's codified doesn't matter we can repeal it because the Supreme Court said. And they fuck Donald Trump. Anyone who fucks Trump fuck them. We hate the Supreme Court. We don't obey the Supreme Court their creeps Lawless.
In 1965 I was in the third grade. And hated LBJ. Because he pulled his dog ears. He said they liked it. He was a jerk and he was stinky. He was also arrogant.
LBJ was the weirdo Trump WISHES he could be. LBJ passed some controversial policies but at least his eccentric behavior made him endearing. Trump's eccentricity is why so many people hate him and it just makes him look psychotic.
What controversial policies did LBJ have?
Vietnam was JFK's (and mostly his advisers') policy which LBJ inherited.
Nothing controversial about civil rights, voting rights, Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, VISTA, Job Corps.
There was controversy.
As a child, I saw a license tag for sale in a Demopolis, AL gas station. It showed a silhouette of a pregnant Black girl, and it said "I went all the way with LBJ" which reinterpreted LBJ's campaign slogan in 1964. I didn't really understand it, but I knew it was bad.
I don't remember the exact policy he passed but Lyndon B. Johnson is one of the president's infamously known for further dividing our two major political parties even further, along with John Adams, Ronald, Reagan and Donald Trump.
Keep in mind that Lyndon Johnson was also a Democrat. Trump likes taking away things Democrats do to help the American people. It's always been about cruelty.
Man, the Times (and likely most newspapers) really crammed a lot of news onto the front page in those days. Look at all those 1 column headlines. Frankly, I like that approach more than the more stylistic design of more recent times (fewer stories but more artsy).
Wow! When presidents actually tried to help their constituents and better America instead of destroying everything and selling the pieces for personal gain. Good times.
The good old days when the democrats had a supermajority in the house. Fact.. all the great achievements of America came from Democratic president.
The moon? 40-hour work week equal rights signed into law Healthcare, social security Ect..
What has a republican ever done?
Nescience got us here
"Republicans" during that time were actually ideologically the Democrats of today. There was a switch during 1950s when the GOP Southern strategy was implemented, during which "Democrats" from the South, who were ideologically GOP, moved to the GOP party to try to suppress votes of Black ppl.
Thus, the parties switched with more Democrats becoming ideologically the Democrats of the 1960s and the GOP moving over the an all racist group who hate other US citizens if they aren't white. Thus, "Republicans" of the 1860s became the Democrats of the 1960s.
No, they didn't. A man who happened to be a 'Republican' outlawed slavery in order to win a war. It was not 'ended' by any means, or they would not be able to enslave a criminal for being convicted.
Are people aware that President Harry Truman was the first to enrol for Medicaid and the first to receive Medicaid benefits.
Just goes to show that back then presidents weren’t in politics for the money and benefits.
“Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country!”
Congress has hit a new low - never forget that the Dems refused to hold a primary in 2023.
An old man with dementia was captain of the ship. No this is not a nightmare - it is reality.
I remember, working in a doctors' office in high school.
Medicare/Medicaid was viewed as horrific & government's overreach which would destroy physicians' autonomy.
2025, insurance companies, private equity, hospital conglomerates have destroyed the independent private practice not M/M.
You can blame all this Obama who failed to pass universal healthcare while at the same time bailing out Wall Street but letting millions of Americans lose their jobs and homes
Also, Russia sucks ass. Putin sucks ass. Russian army are weak fuckheads who lose constantly. Your bot farm sucks ass. You suck ass and I hope your wife leaves you for someone with a bigger d. Which shld be easy, Russian boy.
Trump and ALL republic@nts are bastards greedy immoral disgusting parasites. They are all very happy to accept their pay check from the government for doing absolutely NOTHING for their constituents but complain about government fraud & waste...
Ahhh, but after this, I'm thinking the most of them will say never again... you can only kick a dog so many times before it turns around and bites you...
Make America Great Again is actively trying to kill America's Great Society. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Society
You know, if Trump can steal Reagan, I can steal LBJ.
After signing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and shortly before the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Monumental achievements.
Behind FDR, the greatest American President of the 20th Century.
It would have been better if the Part B coverage was 100%, but Johnson had to cave on that one. Unfortunately, Medicare classic is being undermined by W’s Part C Medicare Advantage.
With European countries building up their militaries and the trillion dollar from the Ukraine pact. The billions collected by the tariffs. We can cut our military spending by 2/3 and give all Americans at least free health care Think that will ever be discussed in the halls of Congress?
Ah. They just had to reprogram enough of the people. This is more Business Plot of 1933 material. The culture war is just a distraction to steal money from the poor and give to the rich.
What's to steal? They already have it. This is a bunch of rich guys that got lucky. Even smart people need luck and most were born into their wealth. They're insecure and want to feel important and the only thing they have on others is more money so they want and need more. Pathetic, really.
There's much much more to steal. They want to be the first with a trillion dollars and they'd be delighted to usher in a techno serfdom dystopia where people are paid in bitcoin and born into forever debt. They literally will do whatever it takes. They're sociopaths.
1965, is this the GREAT time in maga? Two other stories of note on that day. Bogalusa, Louisiana and Deacons for Defense, Viet Cong making trouble. Ah yes, the good old days, I was 9.
I always futilely hope that the ineffective Congresspeople that are so, so bad at public messaging are just really busy—working hard on brutally effective cloakroom deals, twisting arms with a smile & pat on the back like LBJ—but that is never the case it seems. Lost art, I guess.
Harry had tried to get Medicare passed when he was President. It was only fitting that Harry & Bess get the first issued Medicare cards, delivered to them in Missouri by LBJ.
Shame on all you spineless fucking Republicans. You are all assholes. You have no souls. You care about no one. You have the audacity to stand there and pray when you are done. I hope you were praying for your fucking immoral souls. I am sure God is not happy with you. You are all disgusting.
I am still stunned by everything we are witnessing unravel. Many of the public’s brainwashing through the repetition/spread of lies that use ill-fitting narratives & republican law makers grasping to hold onto what seeming little bit of power they have, quick to fall in line behind one or two people
Why we have to keep refighting the Civil War in new ways every 50 or so years is 🤯. Over and over, powerful people want to profit off less-powerful people, and to do it they have to make all the less-powerful people fight each other. The powerful never stop trying and the rest of us never learn.
Oh please. The democrats of modern times have allowed this modern fascism to happen due to their complete laziness and lack of willingness to do anything meaningful.
Because we had all had enough of their bullshit and they knew it. We were all getting ready to revolt against the entire institution of government. Look at what happened in 1963 and the protests...look at who died.
When honour and loyalty to your country was displayed with humility and integrity.
Now you have an X-rated Disney film running the same nation into the gutter.
Dear #Bluesky friends, let's stand in solidarity during the February 28 economic #blackout. On this day, let's show our power by not spending a dime at major corporations—no gas, no fast food, and no big-box retailers like Walmart, Target, or Amazon. Instead, let's support small businesses.
If the preamble to the Constitution is the "rule and guide" of our society then we can only PROMOTE the general welfare and NOT DEMOTE the general welfare. Ergo this GOP bill is unconstitutional. Tie this bill up in the courts until we elect a new House in 2026.
Also notice the headline where a new government position is approved by the Senate…not randomly appointing a foreign supervillain to take over the government.
These rich men who lived through 1964-1974 after civil rights, birth-control, title ix, women in sports/college, medicare/medicaid etc are only 70 and over now - they want the good old days back - they need to go!!!

Bring the FIGHT to a Republican near you, wherever they're hiding, you have 2 weeks before the vote.
That's how the system works, YOU have to MAKE them hear YOU!
Just sayin'
The GOP Nazi party are entirely responsible for their own shitty ass racism and ugly dictatorship. Their votes yesterday showed that. They suck ass.
You know, if Trump can steal Reagan, I can steal LBJ.

At the signing ceremony for the Medicare and Medicaid Act of 1965, Harry Truman became the first person to apply for Medicare.
His application was witnessed by LBJ, who then handed Truman his Medicare card.

After wwii, when communism became rival to western powers, many countries introduced some form of this program.
Some countries have adopted this as well, like Alberta’s rat control program.
But America ignores these factors like a cult.
