In fact, the one time I've had any kind of health scare in the past decade, my insurance experience was awful. I went to urgent care, not in network, I went to another urgent care, they told me to go to the ER. I go, I've been to doctors attached to this hospital before, it's in network..

But the specific doctor I spoke to for 5 minutes was not. Could I eat the cost? Yes, that time. And now I have a different insurer. So I might reasonably answer that I'm satisfied now, but my overall experience with insurers has been mixed, even with my very common and minor experience.

And while there are plenty of horror stories where the insurance company is unequivocally a villain, there are plenty of times someone gets sick, the bills get paid, and everything is fine. We spend a couple trillion dollars on private health care. Needs to be better but it's not 100% dystopia

Before ACA I when I was a free-lancer, I went years as uninsurable: being a smoker was a pre-existing condition. There was a state risk-pool, with an infinite waiting list. It's WAY better now. (NB: I quit smoking 7 years ago).

Health care is very expensive, and insurance reflects that. I'm sorry you couldn't afford it. Trust me, it is orders of magnitude better than it was pre-2010. We have a long way to go, but progress is good

my experience were pre aca implementation and then post when between jobs. any progress being made is fought by companies like uhc.

Have you ever experience a denial for some made up reason that you have to spend many hours on the phone fighting with the insurance company and involving the state Attorney General’s office? Because that happened to me in Minnesota in 2023.
