This Great Blue Heron landed about 20 feet away from me while I was tootling about the boardwalk. This time of year the beaks of the Great Blue Heron are more vibrant, and the lores (the skin between the beak and eyes) is a brighter blue.

One of my favorite birds. I love seeing them in closeby wetland areas, because otherwise I'd only see them if I drove 2 hours to the coast. I see them as good luck.
Last spring I got to take pictures over the weeks of a great blue heron nests in a large pine tree. They had three chicks and I got to watch them grow. Only one chick was left in the nest for a long time but it too left. I haven’t checked it out to see if the parents returned this year.
A heron landed on our roof very early with a mighty thud, resting a while whilst it pondered my neighbour's remaining Carp still alive from previous sorties.
Makes a change from Foxes, Squirrels, magpies and others treating our property's roof as their airfield, yes majestic ignoring damage caused.
I used to work in an office with a window facing a creek where there was a Great Blue Heron nest. Watching them take off and land is a spectacular sight
