Dear video game devs
We’re not interested in games looking “hyper-realistic”
We’re interested in them being fun to play, cheap enough to actually buy on a regular salary, and not so large that the console can only store 7 at a time
Thanks

You're not mad at video game devs
You're mad at businesses and corporations and shitty decisions from upper management only looking to make a profit
Thanks
Video game Devs who are also gamers who are also just as distraught as you

"Hehe, this hard drive is mine now!"
We know that you will rather pay 70$ to big corporation than 5$ to passionate small indie dev team, so you can stop lying about your unrealistic expectations in games, especially when they are made by only one or two people.
Sincerely,
Indie game devs
Even some indie games are immune.
No realistic open world game has given me goosebumps like TOTK has, for example. That game is GORGEOUS. I go sightseeing just for fun!!
Octopath Traveler, Hollow Knight.... All these games are beautiful yet completely different styles. A-R-T!!!
As for cheap - counting for inflation, games are cheaper than they have ever been.
So saying "we" is a bit remiss. 👍
But, like I said, counting for inflation, games are cheaper now than they ever have been. And they take far more resources to make. They simply remain one of the cheapest forms of entertainment per hour out there.
Thats pennies per hour.
Cheaper than pretty much any other entertainment out there.
50 bucks in 1998 in today's USD dollars is 96 bucks.
So ya, not only in line with inflation - the relative price has decreased over the years.
I don't care how pretty the game is. I can't ignore what got it there.
I still and always will love my pretty games. 👍
Why you think downgrading graphics would change the situation you seem to be concerned about is beyond me.
And I certainly dont think decreasing the price of games will help any.
Graphics are supposed to make the game better not be the focus
Please read the above.
Thanks,
Game Devs
I’m a PC/Switch gamer and yeah I agree. Indies are were it’s at and it has been that way for the last few years. I don’t care about EA, Ubisoft and others, I care about Nintendo and Indies.
It's an age old argument with goods and bads on either side.
There, fixed it for you.
Though, I used to think PS3 was enough and then came back to it and it hurt my eyes.
I also played WipEout 2048 recently and didn't remember how blurry and smudgy it was on Vita, but the PS4 Omega remake is peak !
1) on my own
2) when my internet isn't working
Because real life hate them
Justly so
Hence, “muh immerjins”
JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT LIKE IT DOESNT MEAN IT DOESNT HAVE AN AUDIENCE.
I stopped buying most games unless they go on sale, and just enjoy what GP has in its library these days
Something for everyone these days!
Sincerely another gamer
It's OK if it wanes towards the end. But one of the biggest problems with say, Starfield, is that the gameplay doesn't change too much.
I wanted smarter more tactical enemies when I increased the difficulty not just the enemy to have a larger health pools and more damage when they attack.
We're not in the year 2000 anymore this should be totally doable now in 2025.
Games are a collection of a lot of stuff, gameplay, story, graphics, sounds… if there is focus only on one thing, the game doesn’t feel right.
And yeah I do also love pixel games.
Todays Call of duty Is the perfect example of what you should not go for..
Too many games are missing the fundamentals of fun and no amount of graphics, features, or padding will save them.
“It takes 12 hours to get going” came the response
12 HOURS?!? I have a full time job, a wife, a child and a cat. I don’t have 12 hours for a game to get going
It's why mobile games r taking over a large portion of the market. They're ez to pick up, put down, & come back to.
If the game isn't for u bc there's too much time investment, that's totally understandable. You're not the target audience anymore, & that's okay!
The progression in these sorts of games is just not that dynamic. It's the same game the whole time.
I could see the writing on the wall, and no story was gonna be good enough to justify the time.
At a pace I felt was natural for the story beats going on, it took me over 200 hours to get through the whole story and epilogue.
Loved every minute, but I cant play again because of that.
And yet it's one of the best-looking games I ever played.
"Deerrrrrrr.... look they said they want "hyper-realistic" graphics! Let's use AI to make that happen, and since everyone hates AI, we'll only charge 600$ for the super ultimate egregious edition which will only come with most of the game. The rest will be DLC."
The only negative factor was maybe lighting, but even then..
not everyone can or will buy a GPU that costs more than $1,000 just to enjoy a game at its max settings with fluidity. actually take the time to optimize your games for once, and make it so it doesn’t eat up 10% of 1tb ssds.
thanks,
gamers
I was just playing original Tetris on my Switch, and remembering how my childhood friend wanted me to give him a copy of my Tetris floppy disk, and I didn't want to pirate... almost lost the friendship over it.
How about making more games that can be played on MacBooks?
Don’t hate me for saying this. Apple has finally caught up with how mainstream gaming is. As an occasional gamer, I can’t justify the cost of a games console and I prefer working on a MacBook, rather than a laptop
Yes, we paid all the fees and published it, went through all the notarization buerocracy process too, but you still dont game on Mac, but rather on all other platforms that you very probably have, if you already bought the Mac.
Sincerley,
Small indie game devs
Go back and look at what made older games appealing. It ain't realism or graphics. Retrogames are better than anything you are currently working on.
Gamers
I haven't played hardly any of these modern open world adventure games. Mostly, as I don't own a Playstation (GoT got a pc port this year).
But from your comment, I'm assuming this is ubiquitous?
If the devs haven't crushed the spirit of at LEAST half a dozen developers whilst implementing gravity-adjacent jiggle physics to Mario's butt cheeks, then I AINT INTERESTED. Also - can I also get some more loot boxes? My gaming hobby isn't scratching that gambling itch!
We are in a golden age of indie games. Literally spend 10 minutes researching games made by devs outside of AAA names and you will see there are literally thousands of highly rated, fun games at reasonable prices with reasonable file sizes from all genres.
Yet, for whatever reason, even though gamers endlessly complain about AAA games...they go out and buy AAA games on release...then act like they didn't have a choice
It's...baffling. Gamers are the worst demographic imo 🤷
They are just the ones who get underpaid to do their darn job.
Is it...ignorance? Immaturity? A cry for therapy? Idk, but it really needs to stop.
Thanks
A gamer

There are even plenty of great major studio games coming out every year. There are more good games that exist than I could play in my lifetime, this OP is just stuck in whine and complaint mode and doesn't even realize the depth of choice they have.

What was that windows one where you had to split the field to trap balls?

The few giant games AAA I like never get finished cos like most adults I don’t have 200 hours to play a game in 😂
Crappy cell shaded 2d looking comic book graphics.
Now it's high poly 3d models and small pallet size paint.
Also saying the game that hits the lowest common denominator in Minecraft is the argument you think it is.
Last time i checked ReLogic devs weren't starving
Neither is Hakita
And neither is Toby Fox
All games under 30 bucks btw
Even Hollow Knight has an abysmal price for what it offers and yet it kept receiving updates until it was deemed complete
That was the point i was trying to make.
I hear you, let's do this.
No, I mean FUN. As in put a gatt dam smile on my face fun. Go “challenge” somebody else with Gate Guard Simulator 4.
A more simple graphic can feel warmer, more real and a source of new art.
