Distilled water *is* a form of purified water, but distilled water is *more* purified than *some* other kinds of purified water. I'm pretty sure a lot of people don't understand that The Onion is supposed to be funny, not an informative guide on living.
Trust me, they request distilled water for a reason 😩 Honestly, they should make humidifiers that CAN take regular purified water and distills it for us before dispersion. I'd pay for that just to avoid the hassle of this fuck up again or keeping distilled water around.
I had to use humidifiers as a kid and we always used tap water no problem. I assumed this was satire until I read comments and I just don't relate at all, this is never a thing I've once went through with tap water I'm confused.
Evaporative humidifiers wick up water and fans evaporate it to humidify. Using tap water in them just leaves the dissolved minerals in the humidifier and you might need to clean them out sometimes. But newer humidifiers use ultrasonic to blast water into the air and will spread mineral dust around
You could also use some solution like this to help if you use tap water! that's what I do but there's also a lot of crud buildup in the humidifier I have to clean
I've got one humidifier I run tap water through, but it's entirely because I know how to disassemble and clean. This mostly involves chipping calcified minerals off the heating element.
Well, this actually answered a lot of questions that my house has been having. Still not buying distilled water, but it's nice to know where my life is headed.
