I’ve been thinking about getting diagnosed because there’s absolutely no doubt I have it. But I’ve been trying to manage because the medication side effects always make me nervous

It really can be life-changing. I'd encourage it. Side effects can certainly suck. I started on Strattera and it was awful - side effects greatly outweighed any benefit. Vyvanse is a much better fit. It may take a lot of trial and error to find what works for you. Oddly enough, even if I have... 1/2

to stop taking it, my increased HR from the stimulant exacerbated my symptoms indicative of a heart problem, so I wouldn't have made the connection otherwise. I'm seeing a cardiologist in a couple weeks. If I do have a heart condition, I can thank these meds for finding it...fwiw lol.

Same with me, on Vyvanse, and finally convinced my doctor I wasn't depressed and just needed to treat my ADHD!

It's helped me a lot as I realized the negative inner voice was very much due to my ADHD. I am much kinder to myself. I don't want to go back!

My adult daughter believes she has ADHD. She has been dealing with so many different symptoms for such a long time. Will see a doctor soon. I hope she can get the help she needs, she is such smart and caring person, and does have moments where I can see the struggle🥺

The body of understanding for female and adult diagnoses is getting better. Maybe I was lucky, but I can say that the only fight I had to get mine done was with insurance to pay for it after!

I didn't realize just how much I was struggling until I started taking Vyvanse almost 10 years ago and could actually get stuff done. There's a lot that I still struggle with in terms of executive function and time management, but stimulants are what make me able to even get out of bed most days.

I've been taking Vyybrid for the past 15 years. It's never been the feel-good happy pill for me. It gives me the ability to make reasonable choices and prevents me from sliding into a depression that leaves me prone to thinking errors and fear.

I might be coming off of the stimulants soon, as I am finding out I might have an underlying heart condition, but I am grateful to have had them. Also, I know people who are still here today because antidepressants literally saved their lives. So, so many people benefit immensely from these meds.

Thank you! I am not looking forward to it, because I will likely need to go on beta-blockers once I see a cardiologist. Those basically do the opposite of stimulants, so I could soon be in for a rough ride. But hey, one step at a time!

I personally had my life saved by antidepressants about 15 years ago. I haven’t used them for over a decade, but I’ve begun taking a mild one now to help sleep in the Age of Stupid.

I think there IS a problem of overprescribing — but these ARE necessary drugs and some people’s lives are transformed, if not flat-out saved, by them.

There’s a middle ground that we need to reach and this won’t be it.

HUGE same. I was finally able to learn so much stuff that I wanted to for so long cause ADHD had impaired my short & long term memory so badly. I actually have ENERGY now & go to sleep at a normal time & fall asleep in 30min instead of 4hrs.

I'm sorry that they didn't catch that before the stimulants. I stg stimulants made my heart murmur worse (and didn't even help my adhd). We desperately need alternatives that aren't, you know, labour camps

In the first few days of Vyvanse, it was literally like I had a whole new brain - it was wild. My body has since gotten used to them, so normally I'd up the dosage, but with a potential heart problem I am waiting to talk to a cardiologist first.

They really underplay the heart risks because they're rare, and most people don't take them for long enough for long term side effects to develop. It really sucks when you fall into the "can't take" camp esp when they work.

Look at Intuniv and similar, alpha agonists i think they're called. They seem to be effective and they impact the heart in the opposite direction

Yeah, it sucks to feel the benefit and immediately realize I probably can't take them lol. Fwiw, my heart condition symptoms were always there, I just didn't notice until starting these. 🤷‍♀️

I'm a female adult diagnosis, so like, the least likely group to be diagnosed, historically.

The difference between before and after diagnosis/stimulants is Literally night and day.

I could not judge the passage of time prior to starting Adderall.

I also could not study, take tests, or pass my classes in general, and the only time I could ever effectively learn/do homework was right after a workout (hey, self medication!) so. I Need these. I do not *want* to Need them. But there's a reason I've been clawing my way to a diploma since 2018.

Every day I think “Surely it can’t get any worse” and it does 😩. This will destroy so many lives. I was not able to take Strattera, either, but was ready to ask for something else, as ADHD has been crippling for me. I’m sorry that you had to stop, but glad you found your heart issue.
